RE: 2022-23 WAC MBB Week #2
(11-20-2022 09:15 PM)Todor Wrote: From Albuquerque TV regarding the incident:

From the article:
“Agents alleged Travis (the deceased) had plans with a 17-year-old girl and two of Travis’ male friends to lure the 21-year-old (Mike Peake) to campus to assault him.
They also said Travis was armed with a firearm. He reportedly confronted and shot the victim. The victim had a firearm and shot Travis as well. The girl and two friends fled the scene.”
The entire scenario is ridiculous and shady as hell.
Sounds like the state police don't consider Peake to be the main culprit here. It will be interesting to find out what kind of "lure" would induce someone to go out at 3am into a situation dangerous enough that you'd want to bring a gun along.
But unwise isn't necessarily illegal. What's the law in New Mexico with regard to carrying a gun on college campus, and standing your ground versus requirement to avoid confrontation?

Well Tarleton has beaten Belmont and Boston College and has advanced to the finals of the Paradise Jam in the US Virgin Islands. We have dominated and have played at least ten in both games. We will play Drake in the tournament finals.

Oh my word......nmsu player of appropriate age packing heat, IN his travel bag, on a.....BUS?!
NM gun law; Bus carry:
It is unlawful for any person without prior approval from the company to board or attempt to board a bus while in possession of a firearm upon his person or effects and readily accessible to him while on the bus, 30-7-13.
Despite being a deep blue nanny sheep state, nm does enjoy Texas-like freedoms when it comes to the protection of self and property. No matter, it's surely to attract scavengers from the national socializing media looking to villainize the kid and use it as a platform. Though you do have to wonder what CUSA (publicly) thinks about it...

So far, unlike last year, we've learned how to control and maintain a lead. We've led all but the final minute of the @ASU game, and that was due to a total FT meltdown.
I finally get what BCG is doing. This young "small" team can really play, and they're playing well together as a team. A solid foundation is forming. Sprinkle in a few big men that hustle and can run the floor next year and we're going places!

No one outside of NM and maybe some WAC/MWC fans will care about this story by the end of the week. There will be another shooting, murder or mass shooting to report on. There are laws and restrictions just like any other state on carrying a firearm. Depends on if the firearm he had was legit (I’m guessing not) and I’m pretty sure carrying a firearm on a school campus is illegal.
So even though it appears Peake was the victim of a set up and the gun he had may have saved his life it doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods legally yet. And definitely his basketball career is done.

Well done with the Boston College win. It was not even close. Take down Drake and bring back a trophy (a first place one)!

All state universities in Texas allow campus carry. Each one may have specific rules and buildings where firearms are not allowed. Private universities I believe are still allowed to outlaw campus carry if they choose to.

We care and are following it. We know what it is like to lose two star players at peak season due to social issues. It didn't involve a shooting, but still hurts as a program. Interestingly, we still went to the NCAA that year. He should have never been there but hindsight is 20/20. Sorry one of the others is no longer alive and I hope he can heal, learn and grow from it.

Maybe it's not that bad? The latest articles say: (a) the police aren't releasing his name because they have a policy of not releasing the victim's name, (b) they've already arrested and charged other people, but not him, © the police report says he was running away when he was shot, and (d) from what I read carrying a gun on a college campus is only a "petty misdemeanor" in New Mexico:

I’m not looking at things hoping he plays again for us or that our program doesn’t come out with a black eye. The way I see it, one kid is dead, another’s promising career cut short and lucky to be alive, many others close to the situation lives are changed forever. Everything you’ve said is true but for me it’s just all the BS that led up to that night. Tired of seeing it come to this kind of stuff.

This is a butt whopping’.
9:28 is still a lot of basketball. Too early to give up.
Y’all did see the score shown on the pic? 432-33.
Defeatist mentality. Keep playing.
