Welp. Losing by 28 points to Bradley probably eliminates any chance for an at large bid to the big dance. It is MAC championship or bust now so Stan Heath has to figure this thing out on the fly. I am in total shock.

Excellent point…. And I too am in shock. Hoping this was just some horrible fluke of a game.

Wondering how we lost to Bradley by so much with a two first round future NBAers on our roster?

Should we start a separate player thread for Jihad?

RE: EMU vs Bradley Basketball on Tue, Nov 15
I don't have an online betting account so if I want to place a bet (say every couple weeks) I drive 15 miles into Maryland.

Hence, I don't spend much time trying to find every angle, pot hole, etc. for betting contests.

That said, trap game midweek game, and a 400 mile bus ride, I'd bet the 'family farm' on Bradley.

And EMU played like they had a 10 lbs sack on their backs. They seemed slow, not 100%, etc.

Bets always go better after the game is played. That said, I bet on Eastern. It was the right bet UNLESS Michigan turns out to be a garbage team and I do not think they are.

I also couldn’t imagine “betting the farm” on my alma mater to lose, but maybe that’s just me.

I knew Bradley was no cupcake having lived in MVC country for 19 years but dang, does this ruin everything in the eyes of the media and fans locally? If we get on a roll and Bates goes off, is it always going to be, "Yeah but...you know they lost to Bradley by almost 30." Is it going to be "Michigan wasn't really into it. It was more of a scrimmage to them, they'd beat them by 40 now." Losing to Bradley on the road is no crime, but GD this was truly the worst case scenario. I pray this doesn't kill all the momentum because I still believe this team can be damn good. This is not a team that deserves to play in front of 950 fans at home like Murphy's teams. I don't know how we overcome the perception this loss has cast on this team. Needless to say, I am bummed out. Why? Why? Why?

Tired teams lose by dozens, not by a few buckets.

I didn"t know before the gamr of the 400 mile bus ride.

couple of thoughts from your old pal dansplaining:

1. wowzers that was a terrible telecast
2. great to see Ferguson Jenkins at the game. as a big dumb nerd for baseball history hes super underrated. its great to see him support his alma mater.
3. we're going to get every single teams best shots this year. emoni for how great he is puts a target on this team. every coach has years worth of bulletin board material pre-packaged. its up to heath and the team to be ready for it and stand up to it.
4. im not going to get worried about a lopsided away loss out of conference. work out the kinks, move on, take it out on oakland.
5. i like how golson plays. i like how randle plays. weve got some pieces - just gotta put them together.

Don't have a problem with the loss but the bigger concern is HOW they lost. No cohesiveness, flat-footed, slow on defense, no anticipation of the play, street ball, etc.

I'm sure Stan saw this too. He needs to fix that nonsense.

What we know from long distance running and horse racing.

If either, human or beast, is not 100%, they can fold like a cheap suit. Take a race horse. Horse goes out too fast and puts up great fractions and then dies. Maybe 3 lengths behind, then 5 and then 8 and then 10. And maybe more.

While a resident of 48197, I went up to Saginaw to run their marathon. I wanted to break 3 hours after having done 3:08 the month before. I was on pace for 2:55 after the first half and finished in 3:19. I literally died like a dog or a race horse who sets a hot pace and then is 'cooked.' That was my worst experience as a marathon runner. Completely misjudged the pace and when the sun came out, I was cooked. Put the fork in...

There is nothing worse but a fresh team playing a 'cooked' team in the 2nd half. The cooked team is defenseless to stop the other team. We see this a lot with mismatch games (say EMU vs. a NAIA team). The lead goes from 10 to 15 to 20 and maybe more.

EMU gave everything Friday night and then I assume Monday afternoon drove 6 or 7 hours to Peoria and then had to be 100% to face a tough Bradley team which was on top of its game.
