Liberty vs. Notre Dame, it may finally happen
Damien Sordelett of the Lynchburg News & Advance, states that Sports Illustrated writer Richard Johnson has picked the Flames playing the Irish in the Camilla Bowl. If this happens, it will be the epitome that LU has arrived in the sports world from LU's perspective. Would the Irish agree to play LU?

From Sordelett's article: "Sports Illustrated's Richard Johnson had been projecting only the New Year’s Six bowl games and select high-profile bowl games but expanded to all 41 this week. His pick for the Camellia Bowl is Liberty and Notre Dame, marking the first time an outlet has projected the independent programs to meet in a bowl game."

Not gonna happen. The camellia bowl tie ins are C-USA, sunbelt and MAC.

Yes just because a sportswriter projects matchups he would like to see doesn't mean they will happen.

Is it going to happen? Probably not. Is it possible. Yes. And what's the harm in hoping it happens? It's better than throwing a damper on it with an off the cuff comment.

Since that bowl was created in 2014 there has never been an appearance from a team outside of c-usa, MAC and the sunbelt. The SI reporter clearly didn't bother looking up bowl tie ins before throwing together fun matchups in random locations. I'm not trying to damper your dreams but we have a better shot at the cfp this year than for two ranked independents to play against each other in the camellia bowl. Now there may be a unlikely shot at us playing against notre dame in a different bowl but im not sure which one that would be because we don't have any bowl tie ins against acc schools which is where notre dame gets theirs.

And bowl tie ins are based on teams with bowl eligible records. It's not worth it to me to spend more time on this dialogue. And my "dreams" are spent on other topics rather than hoping LU gets to play ND. The LU/ND scenario interest was kindled after LU played BYU. That was a milestone for LU. That's all. It was a fun topic after the SI writer wrote the piece. More like fodder fun.

I mostly post on the CUSA board now days rather than here. In posting here, I just didn't see the merit of bashing the dialogue with a one sentence statement. I would expect that on all other sites. Not such much here. And each to his own. I am complete with this and moving on to LU's remaining schedule.

There's no doubt in my mind it'll happen eventually. I hope it ends up happening in a NY6 or expanded cfp. It would make it that much more of a special moment.

I’d be willing to bet we somehow end up in a bowl game and not a regular season game.

Saturday's laid egg of a game squashed any hope this year of a ND game. Sometime in the future.
