CID, did the replay show an inbound violation?

I thought it was pretty noticeable.

By the way, the woman sitting next to me is wearing Michigan gear but told me "I'm an Emoni Bates fan" and has been cheering every Emoni bucket. I can see why with Bates outscoring Dickinson.... (I'm trolling)

It sounds very loud. You can hear the crowd every time Emoni even touches the ball. Bummed I’m not there. And I wish it could’ve been at the Gervin Center.

I liked the LCA experience- for both the players and the fans. There were 14,204 in attendance. I would say only about 4k (maybe 5k) were EMU fans. But I agree with Frank that they were just as loud.

When we were driving up to the parking garage, we could hear a large (or loud) group singing the EMU fight song as they walked along the Detroit sidewalk. It had the feel of a marquee game that I don’t think you get at the Gervin Center (plus, I don’t think UM will ever play there again). Anyway, the players provided a marquee show. Very good game!

RE: How Does EMU Match Up Against UofM and Can We Win?
EMU has a very good team, but game was decided by EMU excessively fouling. Many unnecessary.

Even with Dickinson having a field day, DMU was trailing almost the entire game. But EMU didn't stop fouling and I saw no indication that Heath was getting on his players and telling them to stop fouling.

Has to be cleaned up. Problem goes far beyond EMU having young players. Fundamentals need to be taught. Clear players don't have concept that no offensive player should be fouled when they're just dribbling or taking a low percentage shot from the floor.

Lovejoy has to stop body touch fouls. Does that a lot as well in practices. Heath must pull him quickly in both practices and games so he internalizes the message. Heath merely told Lovejoy he was outing a player at the foul line for a 1-1. Should have told him to stop body fouls. Also don't understand Lovejoy flailing his hands in the air. Noah has curtail body touch fouls as well.

Fouls squandered outstanding performances by Emoni and Noah.

Emoni has upped his game. Shot 32 percent on three's for Memphis, shot 50 percent on three's last night. Why improvement? He didn't shoot as many three's from way out. He can still improve his decision making on drives into traffic. Should also slow down so he can have a spin move to the hoop when necessary. Played solid defense. He could add to his maturity by not playing to the crowd after each play. Would help him focus.

Thought Emoni should have played a few defensive plays inside, and switched Golson to perimeter. Would help his game and his overall game as well.

From Shawn Windsor at the Free Press: "Between him and Noah Farrakhan, a transfer point guard from East Carolina, Eastern Michigan might be the most electric and entertaining college basketball team in the state."

Farrakhan was taking some unnecessary chances defensively with four fouls knowing full well that if he fouled out, it was game over. So yeah, that was a bit questionable.

That's very true from what I watched last night. As someone once said it was better than advertised. Actually I agree with Miggy the excessive fouls is a bit concerning. I think many teams will use the down low game and see if they can foul our front court out of the game.

Worse mistake Michigan made last night was not stationing Dickinson by the rim. Allowed both Noah and Emoni to torch Michigan at the rim. On the other hand, if he did they both probably wound have gone over him and scored.

I would like to add more later but there were many fans telling me they’re coming to the George Gervin Arena to watch Bates and Farrakhan. I would bet we see a couple sell outs at the GGA if we start W.I.N.N.I.N.G

Should add that the refs were slightly biased against EMU in their foul-calls in the second half. That should have been anticipated given the crowd was mostly Michigan backers.

Given Michigan's height advantage, Michigan garnering 2 more offensive rebounds (10-8) than EMU and garnering 4 more second chances points than EMU did was to be expected. But Dickinson having 4 of Michigan's 10 ORs would not been as high if EMU players had put a body on him. No other Michigan player had more than 1-offensive reboun

RE: How Does EMU Match Up Against UofM and Can We Win?
My thoughts on the game as follows:

What a fabulous experience for EMU players, coaches, alumni and fans. My seven friends and I just had a magnificent time first going down town Detroit for dinner and then watching two pretty good teams give every ounce of energy competing against each other for a win. We came up short but I was proud of how hard both teams played!

Regarding UofM, i don’t think they’re a top 25 team. I think they are an NCAA tournament bubble team with perhaps one of the top 5 collegiate centers in the game. I don’t believe Dickinsons game translates to the NBA but he’s a helluva college player. As predicted, Noah exposed UofMs Llewelyn, and Emoni outplayed Jett Howard. Michigan will get exposed when they start playing on the road. Not saying they’re a bad team but IMO without Dickinson, EMU easily wins this game. Teams that may have a veteran Big will beat UofM. Not to take anything away from EMU because UofM is probably a tournament team and we may have potential to be a tournament team as well.

Noah has improved his game offensively and defensively. Agree with Sam that during winning time (defined as last 5 minutes of the game), the ball has got to be in Noah’s hands - Heath has nicknamed him the General! Noah got by Llewelyn with ease and showcased his bounce in the paint and deadly perimeter shot making ability. Llewelyn got his points mostly on free throws!

Emoni provided the most electric plays and unbelievable shot making ability as well. I was impressed with how hard Emoni played on defense. He made shots just like I remember him torching High School seniors when he was a 14 yo high school freshman. However, I’m not sure Emoni can duplicate that shooting Performance!

Golson, Golson, Golson - love your game and you’re a stud!! He played out of position having to guard Dickinson but he played great team defense made some nice midrange shots - brilliant! You play hard on D!!

Lovejoy - like Sam, he is becoming a fan favorite. His relentless Ball hawking on D made UofM turn the ball over. Orlando has got to learn not to foul when the refs are biased. Orlando got in the paint easily too but just couldn’t get going offensively.

Randle played hard on D and I was surprised how well he did guarding Dickinson even though the stat line may not show it.

Acuff - hate to call you out because you’re a very good player but for some reason your offensive game is not clicking. Maybe Heath starts Lovejoy and see if Acuff can do better off the bench.

Geeter/Billingsley- somewhat incomplete - your game was cut short because of the B1G refs and not adapting to how the game was being officiated. Both of you have great potential this season!!

Yes the B1G refs (especially tall white bald ref) always gives UofM the calls but this guy is so obviously biased against EMU. Yes we did foul and reach but clearly the refs impacted the outcome of this game.

On a neutral court, perhaps in the NCAA tournament, we just might see a rematch. The NCAA loves interesting stories and the country would like to see a rematch - as would I!

Finally I’m going to be so excited to welcome this team back to the George Gervin Arena - it’s going to be electrifying!!!

Let’s go Eagles!

I think those refs work both B1G and MAC.

I don’t want to quote the whole thing, but great post Luckey. Agreed wholeheartedly about Golson. He’s learning to be more of a controlled wrecking ball, and that 18 foot jumper is money now.

I’ll add one thing about Geeter that I haven’t seen mentioned yet…this was his first career game against D1 competition, and he had to deal with an All-American. I thought he flashed some impressive traits (including that 3), and I think his arrow is pointed straight up. My bold prediction is he ends up being the third head of the hydra with Noah and Emoni by season’s end.

Terrific post Luckyone. Noah has to shoot more often and shoot more three's. Golson has made great strides from last season, and I see him as EMU's third shooter. Legend seems solid if he can stay on the court. Acuff shot well last season, but is forcing contested shots and is not looking to pass the ball. He should not have been shootin g as much as he did toward the end of the game.

Like to see Rice, Pranger and Ballard get some playing time.

I will second Sam’s compliment on Luckey’s post. Great job, Luckey! And way to go expanding the EMU fan base by bringing 7 friends!

I only disagree on Acuff. I too am disappointed he is thus far 0-9 on three point shots. But he has brought a lot to the table other than that- AND Lovejoy is yet to attempt a three. So I see no need to swap the starting lineup, unless you are thinking to bring Tyson off the bench to shoot threes assuming he gets out of his slump.

Preseason, I thought Tyson would be the third head of the hydra. But maybe that will turn out to be Legend. Excellent point, Sam. Especially that this was his FIRST D1 game. Lot’s of upside.

I would add one more point of agreement with Luckey’s post. He promoted me to consider: if UM lost Dickinson (who EMU had no answer for) and EMU lost Emoni (which UM had no answer for), would EMU have the better team? I would think so.

Statistically, Pranger is EMU's best defender as opponent scored the fewest points when he was on the court in EMU's first game. Randle is EMU's second best defender. Billingsley defense is lacking. Pranger deserves more playing time as he had three steals, 2-rebounds, and committed no fouls in EMU's first game. He should have played against Michigan.

By the way, it looked like Pranger is injured with an air cast on his leg. Didn't dress last night.
