Cal Baptist starting to trail in double digits, 56-42 near halfway through the second.

Brutal first half for the GCU. Can't afford many more starts like that this season, as they'll end up as ugly losses on most nights. Lopes dodged a bullet and have a lot to figure out.

To spin it to a positive, they fought, even though they weren't playing well in the 1st half, to come back and win. It could be one of those lessons learned without having to take an L. I'm glad they won.

GO AGGIES!!!

Montana State is picked as a heavy favorite in the Big Sky. They have lots of people back, and they came out playing like it. It was a good win for the conference I’d say. MSU is definitely not some cupcake bottom feeder team. They won 25 games last season and had a NET of 128.

Absolutely agree. MSU is no cupcake however I do feel like one of the best teams in the WAC should be one of the best teams in the Big Sky. It also speaks to GCU's resiliency to come together and come back from a 19 point deficit.

GO AGGIES!!!

Texas A&M must have learned something from last year, they are playing the kind of defense ACU is known for. Looks like that works really well for the Aggies. They are dominant.

CBU playing close with NJIT in Riverside as the first half is about to wrap up. New Aussie Goodrick is a battler. Had a high 19 rebounds last season when he was at South Dakota. Started out 5 of 5 shooting tonight.

RE: 2022-23 WAC MBB Week #1
CBU has gone on a big run to close out the game and won by 16, 59-43. Quintana for CBU looks like he’ll be a big 3 point threat. He’s a transfer from LMU and one of their top 3 point shooters in program history, as well as being nearly 90% from the free throw line.

Interestingly, a former Lancer, Hess, plays for NJIT. After CBU he transferred to Salt Lake CC, then UTEP, then ENMU, and now as a grad student at NJIT he’s back playing in the CBU events center. Quite a trek.

UTA beats DIII Southwestern. The game notes counts the game as a win for the Mavs, but an exhibition for the Pirates. Is that common?

Yes, it doesn’t count towards their W-L record. Common place for non-D1 record keeping.

To elaborate further, each team decides how the game counts for them. It isn’t something that is “regulated” or has to be agreed on by both teams.

Right on. A D1 program/coach would want it to count because it’s a likely win, while a non D1 program/coach is looking at a loss.

One other thing, schools have to declare whether it’s a regular or exhibition game before hand. Can’t lose and then decide it was an exhibition. Has to be listed on your schedule.

Slightly off topic, but 2 teams that just played WAC teams are playing each other today. Montana State and Long Beach. Touches on the conferences NET rankings at several points.
