RE: Women's basketball
The WBB schedule is ranked 312. That's out of 361.
Nothing necessarily "wrong" with that schedule. But let's not act like having a good record with that strength of schedule is anything incredibly impressive.

We just need, as suggested above, context.
A good record vs. a weak schedule, can be hard to interpret.
A bad record vs. a strong schedule can be hard to interpret.
A bad record vs a weak schedule, is bad.
We (or should I say, "I") have no idea how good this team is. Probably not a terrible team, but I doubt a really strong one. Terrible teams lose to everyone.
The team has benefited from a lot of home games. Not typical for EMU hoops.

They only have 8 players and are getting tired towards the later part of the game. 2 to injuries and 2 more can play after the first of the year.

Adds context: team is very shorthanded.

RE: Women's basketball
The problem becomes that this team will always be at a disadvantage when it comes to the decision making on the sideline. No matter how many players we get back.
We have seen over the last seven years that we can lose with more talented teams to better coached opponents. I can think of five MAC opponents off the top of my head where the coaches run circles around Castro.
So. Color me pessimistic that anything has really changed here.

Always good to get a road win. Especially against a Big East opponent (even if X has not been a good WBB program of late).
This showed the Jekyll and Hyde of this team. To only score 3 points in a quarter is unbelievably bad. To come back and score 22 in a quarter is unbelievably good.
The intensity they showed on defense the whole time was admirable and the best part of watching this game.

This team is a mystery. Have no idea how good they are.
I'm getting to say more often about EMU sports. How good? IDK (I don't know).
Our sports aren't like UofM FB where the question is how good? The answer is really good or really really good or really, really, really good. Kind of top 10, top 4 or NC?

Much like I said with MBB I'll say now with the women's basketball: my evaluation will be held until MAC play begins.
Beating Wright State is a nothing burger. They have one win on the season and it is over Ohio Christian.
I've lived in Ohio my whole life (sans six years in Ypsi / SE Michigan). I had to look up where Ohio Christian is because I had never heard of it.

I do agree that my knowledge of WBB is limited and as you suggest these OCC records could prove to be unreliable predictors of what will happen in MAC play.

RE: Women's basketball
EMU women won tonight. Now 8-3. Keep an eye on freshman PG Olivia Smith. Scored 15-points on 5-6 shooting, including 2-3 on three's. Shot 3-4 from the foul-line. In 35 minutes, committed but 1-turnover and 1- foul. Had 1-steal.
Slightly more than half her fga's are three's this season, and she's shooting 35.2 percent on three's.

I'm withholding all judgement until seeing the BG game.
We've been more talented than them since their coach got there and yet we've lost the last three matchups against them.
Miami stinks, we should start MAC play 1-0. BG-Akron-Buffalo-Kent State will tell the story of where this team actually is.

Dude, they beat Hillsdale, a team the men would have beaten by 30+ points.
Just looking at their schedule here's how the men would have done:
Lindenwood W
SIUE W
FAMU W
IUPUI W
ND State W
N Dakota W
S. Indiana W
Xavier L
James Madison L
Wright State L
Hillsdale W
As you can see, strength of schedule is HUGELY important when accessing records.

RE: Women's basketball
With regards to the men, starting the season 7-0 would have a huge impact on their confidence and their ability to experiment with different combinations in "low stress" games so the 3 L's I have assigned to them could have perhaps be turned into W's in 2 of those games...context is EVERYTHING in sports.
