This is a brilliant move by Yormark!
1. Solidify us as the top bb conference
2. Differentiate us from SEC and B1G
3. Outflanking the pac10
4. Get us exposure for Spring as well as Fall
5. Further entice Arizona

I hope it happens

Couldn't have said it better. I'm loving Yormark more and more.

No.

Gonzaga without Few is East Carolina.

Or Baylor, or Villanova, or even Xavier. In fact they're probably more similar to Xavier as far as their sustainability. I don't see any comparisons to East Carolina.

Nothing says small time more than a "non all sports member".

ND plays 1/2 an AAC FB schedule.

Zags would be by far the smallest B12 member at 7,295 vs TCU 11,938

kinda mixed about this - i can't get Wichita State out of mind - after a year or two, what has it really brought to the AAC? If Mark Few retires, what will Gonzaga be? But, here and now, in trying to kill off the arrogant PAC people, it could be a good thing, esp. if it helps to entice Arizona bball.

Gonzaga has been much more consistent than Wichita State.

I am cool added non-football full members as long as the football schools have a super majority vote over the non-football. I think 4 would be good. Maybe pull some Big East members since their FOX deal has been encroached upon. The white whale would be pulling Notre Dame away from the ACC.

Big12 is a better fit for Gonzaga than PAC. BYU is an established rivalry. Big12 already has some religious universities while the PAC has historically been to high brow to accept religious universities.

I just don't understand the need when the B12 is already a dominant bball conference.

Gonzaga probably reached out when Yormark said we were open for business. They want out of WCC especially if BYU is leaving.

Yormark is a basketball guy first and foremost.

If adding Gonzaga combined with the FOX tv deal puts pressure on the Big East, then you do it.

If adding Gonzaga combined with the ESPN tv deal puts pressure on the PAC, then you do it.

We are open for Business. Yormark era has been entertaining to say the least.

I’d imagine that’s definitely Arizona, and probably Colorado or Arizona State.

Interesting idea, could be a reach out/thanks to FOX. They wanted B12 BB. Gonzaga for BB might help with P5 all sport adds in getting some FOX money.

When the BIG and SEC start adding BB only then consider it. That will never happen!

Inviting Gonzaga… I’m neither for it or against it… That being said, I too will be concerned if Gonzaga lost their mojo when playing against Big12 competition regularly.

Opposing fans have said these exact same things for years about our (the New Big 12's) coaches and programs -- none of which are/were as consistently good as the Gonzaga men's basketball program has been the last 20-plus years.

The odds of the Gonzaga men's basketball program falling off the map after Few retires are very small. And reward of adding that program to the Big 12's men's basketball roster far outweighs that risk.

Can't believe there's Big12 fan's that are looking at this and thinking "Nah, we don't want Gonzaga coming to our gym every year".

RE: Gonzaga AD met with Brett Yormark about joining Big 12
this only works if the Big 12 is using this as a way to reduce the number of conference games played (just like the Big 12 needs to do in football)

sadly I think this will be another poor idea that is so popular on this forum where you add a ton of teams, play more conference games and pretend that a conference is strong because they played a lot of conference games even though the results of that is a weakened overall conference win loss record

with a max of 25 regular season games (or 27 with participation in various multi-team events) the Big 12 with 12 members could be looking at 22 conference games if the conference was stupid enough to play 11 home and home games against all the other members

if the conference was smart enough to go with 10 games (home and home against everyone in the division) and then 6 games (one game either home or away rotating with the seasons) against the other division then that is 16 conference games leaving 9 to 11 OOC games available for the schedule and there is probably one each for the Big 12 - SEC SEC SEC challenge and the Big 12 - Big East Battle

so that leaves 7 to 9 other OOC games which would be ideal for the Big 12 in reality

unfortunately it seems difficult to make one team BB only work so that probably means two......so then you get one per division and the same format gets you 3 more conference games so now you are down to 4-6 OOC games besides the SEC SEC SEC and Big East games

that is not what the Big 12 needs to leave themselves with the Big 12 needs to be playing and beating OOC teams to maximize the number of teams in the conference with 20+ wins (more like 22 or so) to get the most teams in the tournament

adding two teams to take away 3 OOC games and replace them with what would now be conference games is a plan for weakness not a plan for strength
