2022-2023 Bubas Cup Standings
https://sunbeltsports.org/sports/2022/10...bubas.aspx

It looks like the new Sun Belt office staff are going to pay more attention to the Bubas Cup this season. The Cross Country championships were Friday and the Bubas Cup standings are already posted.

I plan to do the same thing I did last season, which is to give the results and point totals for each sport then list the current Bubas Cup standings. Here it is after the cross country championships:

Women
Rankings/Team/Bubas Cup point total
1. Southern Mississippi (13)
2. Arkansas State (12)
3. James Madison (11)
4. Marshall (10)
5. Appalachian State (9)
6. Coastal Carolina (8)
7. South Alabama (7)
8. ULM (6)
9. Louisiana (5)
10. Troy (4)
11. Texas State (3)
12. Georgia Southern (2)
13. Georgia State (1)

Men
Rankings/Team/Bubas Cup point total
1. Arkansas State (9)
2. Appalachian State (8)
3. South Alabama (7)
4. Marshall (6)
5. Louisiana (5)
6. ULM (4)
7. Coastal Carolina (3)
8. Troy (2)
9. Texas State (1)

Totals
1. Arkansas State (21)
2. Appalachian State (17)
3. Marshall (16)
4. South Alabama (14)
5. Southern Mississippi (13)
6. Coastal Carolina (11)
James Madison (11)
8. Louisiana (10)
ULM (10)
10. Troy (6)
11. Texas State (4)
12. Georgia Southern (2)
13. Georgia State (1)
14. Old Dominion (0)

The women's soccer regular season has concluded. I have not listed the results and point totals because the seeding for the conference tournament does not match the regular season standings, so I'm going to wait and get an explanation from the conference office on how they calculated these seedings and how they apply to the Bubas Cup. The women's soccer conference tournament starts on October 31.

awesome! Was curious about when this would appear...

So this is an actual, beautiful cup that is passed around the SBC?

Question about this. We don't sponsor XC or Softball, are we locked into a disadvantage compared to teams who sponsor every SBC sport?

Yes. But you sponsor men's soccer and most SBC teams do not, so that disadvantage is somewhat mitigated.

"For sports with divisions, the conference records of all teams are ranked and points are awarded regardless of divisional finish."

I'd go with it.

RE: 2022-2023 Bubas Cup Standings
I got my answer about women's soccer. The coaches were given the option to determine how the division winners would be determined. They chose the best record within the division to be the tiebreaks for seeding in the tournament. South Alabama had the better division record than Arkansas State, that's why they were made the #2 seed and the West Division winner.

The Bubas Cup points are determined by all conference games, so these are the standings and point totals for women's soccer:

1. Georgia Southern 14
2. Arkansas State 13
3. South Alabama 11.5
James Madison 11.5
5. Texas State 10
6. Old Dominion 9+1=10 (tournament point)
7. Appalachian State 8
8. Georgia State 7
9. Marshall 5.5
Southern Mississippi 5.5
11. Coastal Carolina 3
Louisiana 3
ULM 3
14. Troy 1

Men's soccer regular season has concluded, so here are the standings and points:

1. Kentucky 9
2. Marshall 8
3. Georgia State 7
4. West Virginia 6
5. Coastal Carolina 5
6. Old Dominion 4
7. James Madison 3
8. South Carolina 2
9. Georgia Southern 1

Here are the current Bubas Cup standings:

1. Arkansas State 34
2. Marshall 29.5
3. James Madison 25.5
South Alabama 25.5
5. Appalachian State 25
6. Coastal Carolina 19
7. Southern Mississippi 18.5
8. Georgia Southern 17
9. Georgia State 15
10. Old Dominion 14
Texas State 14
12. Louisiana 13
ULM 13
14. Troy 7

Kentucky 9
West Virginia 6
South Carolina 2

RE: 2022-2023 Bubas Cup Standings
Volleyball regular season has concluded. The pairings for the conference tournament are on the Sun Belt website. As with women's soccer, the seedings are based upon record within the division. The standings on the site show the records within the division, the conference and overall.

Here are the standings and points for volleyball:

1. James Madison (14)
2. Texas State (13)
3. Appalachian State (11.5)
Troy (11.5)
5. South Alabama (9.5)
Southern Mississippi (9.5)
7. Coastal Carolina (8)
8. Louisiana (6)
Old Dominion (6)
Georgia Southern (6)
11. Marshall (3.5)
Georgia State (3.5)
13. Arkansas State (2)
14. ULM (1)

Kentucky wins the men's soccer tournament championship and picks up the point (10 total).

Here's the current Bubas Cup standings:

1. James Madison (39.5)
2. Appalachian State (36.5)
3. Arkansas State (36)
4. South Alabama (35)
5. Marshall (33)
6. Southern Mississippi (28)
7. Coastal Carolina (27)
Texas State (27)
9. Georgia Southern (23)
10. Old Dominion (20)
11. Louisiana (19)
12. Georgia State (18.5)
Troy (18.5)
14. ULM (14)

Without track and cross country, this thing is going to be very difficult for ODU to ever win. ODU also sponsors swimming, sailing, rowing, field hockey and lacrosse. And all are sports that aren't Sun Belt sponsored. JMU is in the same boat on most of those sports (swimming, field hockey and lacrosse) but does sponsor w cross country and w track and field, so they aren't as impacted as ODU.

Eh, we don't have men's soccer or tennis or....a football team, and we managed it.

Indoor track, outdoor track and cross country account for 6 Sun Belt sports (M&W) ODU does not sponsor. Texas State not competing in 2 sports seems pretty manageable in comparison.

3 sports. We have no football team. 03-lmfao

Ok, I know that's not the same thing because we are guaranteed at least a point or 2, and it's not that funny to anyone but us (sardonically so) but............I tried.

RE: 2022-2023 Bubas Cup Standings
https://sunbeltsports.org/sports/2022/10...bubas.aspx

The Sun Belt office has posted the Bubas Cup points and standings through the men's soccer finals. Their point totals are different from mine and the difference is in the women's soccer points. There are 14 teams in women's soccer and Coastal Carolina, Louisiana and ULM tied for 11th (11-12-13). By my calculations and the guidelines stated on the Bubas Cup page ("Institutions tying for positions split the combined points of their positions."), they should be splitting 9 points (4+3+2), so they should be awarded 3 points each. They have been awarded 2. I have contacted the conference office and they are sticking with their own point totals. Here's the current updated standings after I adjusted the points:

1. James Madison (39.5)
2. Appalachian State (36.5)
3. Arkansas State (36)
4. South Alabama (35)
5. Marshall (33)
6. Southern Mississippi (28)
7. Texas State (27)
8. Coastal Carolina (26)
9. Georgia Southern (23)
10. Old Dominion (20)
11. Georgia State (18.5)
Troy (18.5)
13. Louisiana (18)
14. ULM (13)
