I mean.....the OP isn't wrong...the Big 12 will never be better than the Big 10 or SEC. We will never have more money or bigger brands which we all know is how conferences are judged.

The realistic goal for the Big 12 is to cement itself as the consistent #3 conference which I believe we have potential to do.

I'm just trying to be realistic, and I think realistically 3rd is the Big 12s ceiling for football in a world that prioritizes big brands, blue blood programs, and money. That doesn't mean we won't be extremely competitive top to bottom and we may very well be better at the bottom than some of the leagues above us; but I don't realistically see the Big 12 being a consistent winner of national titles.

What shifts do you see happening that would unseat either the Big 10 or SEC as the clear-cut top tier?

Upsetting teams from those conferences in the natty game would do it.

All that matters is at the end of the day we remain a Power conference. That isn't changing anytime soon.

Clemson has won two national titles recently and played in two more national title games and nobody considers the ACC to be a top 2 conference.

It’s all about money to consider top 2 conferences, not competitiveness. The b10 is a 2 team conference and will be for years to come most likely.

Nailed it, and all the extra money allows them to do is buy out contracts really. If someone is worth a billion dollars and you're worth "only" 500 million dollars you still consider yourself in their weight class.

Or offer idiotic 10-year guaranteed contracts that can't be bought out in the case of Texas A&M and Michigan State.

If rumors of Amazon tier 3 with B12 work out and B12 schools are north of 50 mil payouts every year, not only is the B12 not overated, it will be the #3 conference in the country.

There's a lot of people on this message board with CUSA, AAC, MAC and MWC usernames who are trolls. There's either a lot of resentment from within those conferences or those trolls don't actually root for schools in those conferences. Probably a little of both.

This. It's been confirmed that Tier 3 was part of the ESPN/FOX package. Once Tex/OU leave there will no longer be any individual schools overseeing their Tier 3 rights.

The whole schools selling their individual Tier 3 rights only happened as a way to keep Texas happy and in the conference. We all saw how well that worked out.

The Big 12 is the number 3 conference..in media money. Simply the way it is.

As far as excitement and fun to watch games, it can compete with any conference top to bottom. I prefer to judge based on the field for football, not the bank account.
