This is the reason you play your backup for several series in early games when you are up by 4 TDs, so they are more familiar with real game action if called upon. Funny, last season Candle was fine with platooning Bradley and Finn, but this year he wouldn't put Gleason in for any money, unless Finn had to go to the medical tent. Can't really figure that one out at all.

Maybe because Gleason is know where near as good as Finn? I think it was obvious last year Toledo had two talented kids and Candle wanted to see who would separate themselves on the field. I don’t think this year there was or is any question who was the number 1 QB.

A QB that can run for his life will do better behind the OL.

RE: Finn status / Candle future
We may not like the protection, but the fact that Finn is a wildcard back there, cutting and shifting directions... its amazing we havent held more! I recall about 3 all season. 1 last week on a big 4th qtr run. I cant imagine leveraging a run while pass blocking and not knowing the direction of Finns peotection or running lane. We arent big dude run blockers... moreso thin linemen pulling and moving laterally a bunch.

If he's speaking the same language as our coach, that means Finn is not playing. If he was, he would just come out and say it.

Prior to game 4, Hammock said Lombardi's injury they got better news than expected and he was TBD. Here we are now 5 weeks later talking about medically redshirting him and he wasn't even dressed in game 7.

I will still go with Gleason as having higher "potential" as a passer. Don't laugh yet.

The pass he threw in the Kent State game to Turner was something you just don't forget. My opinion - Finn can't make that throw. Finn tends to wind up for his throws and although they have worked with him (Manning camp included) he still drops his arm when he throws under pressure. Haven't seen enough of Gleason to be more adamant about his passing ability - and one throw is clearly not enough to make a judgment on how he does on all the throws that need to be made. Let's just say I'd like to see him running the team and throwing more. He looked pretty bad earlier in the season throwing the ball. Having to do it this far into the season with little game experience to this point is asking a lot. I'm just going off what I saw on that one pass. My analogy: it was like bringing in a relief pitcher that keeps throwing 85 mph fastballs and is nowhere near the strike zone. Then one game, he comes in for mop up relief duty and throws 98 with movement over the plate. You find yourself with your mouth hanging open and asking - did I see just see that right? Can he do it again? That's kind of where I'm at with him right now.

Admittedly, not much to go on, but I re-watched that throw over and over on replay. He looked like Josh Allen making the throw. Effortless. I'd like to see a lot more of him throwing, because it is as much of a mental game as it is physical ability at QB. What can he do under pressure? Does his throwing motion change when he has to make a throw to convert on 3rd and 8? I'd like to find out. If he is called upon at EMU - we will learn a lot about him. Just like I followed Reggie Gilliam on kick off coverage and punt rushing as a freshman and soph., I saw in him what no one else on the team had - the ability to hit harder than anyone else on the field. Consistently. Gleason hasn't had the chance to show if he can make that kind of throw over and over.
