I still remember the 2 battles with Furman while I was a student. First, the Tribe lost to Furman in the playoffs in 1989, 24-10 when Furman was seeded #2 overall. This was back when only 16 teams even made the playoffs.

The next year, the Tribe beat Furman who was ranked #7 at the time, 38-28. This was the Saturday where Walter Zable had the stadium dedication and it was Homecoming. Unbelievable crowd and I still remember Robert Green and Tyrone Shelton running all over the Paladins.

That 1990 team was exceptional and even 30+ years later, I am still not over the Tribe losing to UCF in the playoffs 52-38. The offense on that team was so good. As many of you remember, during those days, no lead was safe and no deficit insurmountable. The 2 games in 1999 and 2000 were not as fun with Furman blowing the Tribe out each time.
