Other than a frustratingly dumb decision late in the UCLA game, he's done a great job with USA.

Troy and South Alabama are teams that were equally bad last season, and appear to be equally good this season. Can't go wrong with either one, but if I HAD to choose one of the two, Wommack is on his second year at South, where Sumrall had Troy turned around by Game 3 of his first season as a head coach.
That said, Cignetti is probably the most impressive. James Madison outperformed everyone's expectations by a mile.
JMU has outperformed whose expectations? The media's? Certainly no one who knows football is surprised. I'm more surprised App gave up a 25 point lead, especially after the way they ran the ball on Texas A&M and UNC, but that's football and App had guys injured at running back (the last two leaders in rushing in the Sun Belt).
People who know FCS ball know the Top 5 or so could compete at the G5 level and JMU came in with full scholarships due to COVID already; it's not that shocking.
It's more shocking to me that Troy can go from 5-7, 5-7, and 5-7, to 5-2 halfway through Sumrall's first year. That, in my opinion, is much bigger. It's hard to turnaround a roster like that with largely the same roster. It's on par with Lincoln Riley except Riley got to import half of Oklahoma and award winners while Sumrall didn't.
It's Sumrall for me, by a mile. The way his guys play, the same guys who played under Lindsey, is impressive.
It’s a talented Troy roster, esp on defense. CLindsey is just a poor coach.
Troy had a few seniors still left over from the Neal Brown era, and I think they helped younger players buy in to Sumrall's culture, since Sumrall was a Neal Brown guy.
Plus... Chip Lindsey's teams didn't really have any identity. It wasn't a bad culture, but it wasn't good either. I think it was more easily moldable because of that.
And yes, talent is definitely not the issue on Troy's roster.

Astate with a kick returner, tight end and kicker making the list. Lots of talent on this team, we just have to get better at controlling the lines of scrimmage like Butch has been saying. That's been killing us in games.
