It's easy Retro. If you have a losing record (6-7 last year and 2-3 so far this) and you beat a team with a 6-0 record it's an upset. If, however, you consistently have winning seasons, beating an unbeaten team won't be a surprise and won't be seen as an upset. All comes down to consistently winning to change perceptions.

This should be a fun game to watch. Our offense is going to have to keep up with Southern to have a chance - and offense is not our strong suit. Last week was an anomaly.

I get it that both fanbases aren’t feeling really confident with the inconsistencies we’ve seen from our teams this season but we’re both coming off really nice conference wins and even though it’s been a decade since we last faced each other on the gridiron I still have the smell of foul creek water and pig sex stuck in my nostrils. Lockin’ it in as guaranteed, Monarch’s come away with the win and low tide is overshadowed by the Ga Southern stink for a solid week

The running game being that good may be an anomaly but i fully expect our offense to keep moving forward.

Ha, they might! I just thought it was funny to complain about a lack of respect going in to the Georgia Southern matchup with an argument of "ODU just beat the best team in the Sun Belt" when Georgia Southern actually just beat the one SBC team that was ranked.

Also the team that was pretty much universally rated the top team and still is fairly close to universally. Almost all by a wide margin over Coastal. SP+ has JMU #27, USA next at #50, Coastal sixth at #61. FPI has App State first at #56, JMU second at #60, Coastal eighth at #86. Sagarin has JMU first at #56, Coastal seventh at #90. Massey is the only one I checked with Coastal even close and it still has JMU first at #51, Coastal second at #54.

If you guys keep winning you'll start to get more credit, in that case though it'll be really unfortunate that you lost so badly to ECU and Liberty. I'm a big believer in ODU getting it together sooner than later, it'll take time to shake the doubt after all the suckage before mid last year though.

Its all about match ups and scheming. Teams often struggle against teams they should be cruising for a victory and of course FB being a game of momentum anything can happen in any given game. I wish we had taken care of business against UVA and Lahbutty but we haven't turned the corner last year until the mid-season which i hope we did at Coastal but that remains to be seen.

Until the bye, we were treading water from the loss of our OC. During the bye we installed some new wrinkles and fixed some ongoing issues with the offense.
That caught a suspect (hadn't looked great all season vs mediocre opponents) CCU team off guard, and one which was likely looking past us a bit as well.

Will it be enough vs a GaSo that will have studied the film and will certainly NOT be looking past us?
That is a tall order indeed.

In any event I am looking forward to the renewal of this conflict (not a rivalry until we win one ).

I don’t get it either. I mean JMU sure. I predict(ed) a win but my betting record ain’t good. I like the growth I’ve seen, last week especially but also in the Liberty game on the offensive side. Georgia Southern Defense specializes in making everyone's offense look good. I see this game as ODU slightly favored and nothing would really surprise me. If both teams play turnover free, it might be like our shootouts of yester year. I think ODU can control the game by running the football and our offense will stop itself enough times.

Yeah I think this is all pretty on point. They'll get some points, you just need your secondary to make enough plays to stall out some drives or even better get some turnovers. Controlling the game by running the ball is huge too and is what we needed to do, if you start slinging it around like they do then your D is gonna get exhausted and Vantrease is gonna be able to take his time making more big plays and less turnovers. McCall sure burned you guys for some big plays but you avoided turnovers, ran it down their throats, and sacked home seven times. Gotta keep your D rested and force them to keep up the quick passes.

On the GS side they just need to limit mistakes and turnovers early while getting some early stops of their own. If they get a lead and/or play well against the run to force ODU to start throwing more then it might get real tough to get stops and catch them. That's pretty much what we saw.

Unfortunate that this game is at 3:30, I'd really like to watch it.
