I can remember once upon a time when UTEP turned their noses up and look down on NMSU. I would assume that is still the case otherwise it wouldn't be a rivalry right? Funny, when I stationed at Bliss in the mid 90's I saw this game twice and both times in Las Cruces. Great atmosphere at both games.

It's not a terrible bet when you realize that would mean we'd have to make it to the start of the 2025 season without further departures or additions.

RE: 10 Team League
If we do stay at 10 the final week should be "Rivalry Saturday". Have all the pairings play each other. Granted, Sam/Tech and Liberty/FIU aren't really rivals right now but if they hype it up the fans could get into it.

If we are playing eight games just rotate who you skip outside of your rival. So you would only miss someone once every eight years.

This is an oft debated topic and there's pros and cons to both sides.

At Middle, Western is likely to be our best attended home game in any given season we aren't hosting a P5 or Memphis, or perhaps an instate FCS that will travel early in the season.

Western early in the schedule could mean 22k instead of 16k, against say Sam Houston, Western last game of the season if we aren't in contention might be the difference in 10k vs 8k against FIU for instance.

I've been pushing for a SHSU/Tech rivalry in our new conference for a while, it's regional, I'd make the drive to LT, call it the Battle of the Sabine (river) or maybe the TexLa Bowl, etc. Would be fun. Others from Sam (really just 1 account on twitter) is pushing for a SHSU/Jax rivarly, I don't get it, It doesn't make sense, why rival them? They want to call it the Gravy Bowl..which is kinda cool, but I don't see it. Keep it more regional and "natural"

Is a little history between us and most of the games were important.

Kennesaw is closer and easier for fans to travel. We also have played them several times in important games.

Ideally you have more than 1 rival fans get a little extra up for in conference. If you have some history with shsu I would expect both departments

Ideally you have multiple rivals in the conference fans can get a little extra up for. If you and SHSU have some history that makes sense to try and create some heat with it being a yearly game now.

I kinda hope we do that with liberty. Sports are better when you have a good villain. Liberty was beating us in the big South. Now we got another shot at them. And it seems like an easy target to hate on given their whole thing.

I'm all for a rival I can get worked up for. But I am much more likely to travel to Kennesaw than Sam, same for you and Liberty (assuming you live in the Atlanta area). You can visit here easier.

But you never know what might happen. Maybe UTEP becomes our most hated foe.

Anybody see on the realignment board that NDSU is now considering FBS and some have mentioned C-USA as a landing spot?

Thoughts? Very darn good athletic program, but a shoot ton far away.

They have been the most dominant team in FCS the last decade. Casual college fans know who they are. But would success continue if they moved up?

I have seen suggestions they join for football only. That would be easy for them since their football program is in the MVFC and everything else is in the MVC, a separate legal entity that doesn't sponsor football.

I'm just not a fan of the concept of football affiliates. But having them in all sports would be a huge hassle.

If NDSU joins football only.
Then maybe invite FGCU (dunk city) for Olympic sports only.
Then if CUSA can convince NC A & T to join everyone will have a travel partner and it will be a 12 team football and basketball conference.
Just a thought.

Just a thought.

The only draw for joining C-USA is to play FBS football. No Olympic sports only school would want to leave a more condensed conference to join a spread-out conference like CUSA with greater travel cost unless there was additional money to be made in the venture. The only real money draw in C-USA is FBS football, so non-football playing schools gain nothing by joining C-USA.

The only way to drop travel costs for Olympic sports is to expand to 12 full members, splitting into two more regional 6-team divisions. However, C-USA would need to weight to loss in CFP payout revenue for each current C-USA school by adding two additional members versus the reduction of travel costs by creating two 6-team divisions? And will the two additional members add value to the conference?

I would take NDSU and SDSU as a package deal. Hell we are already stretched all over the dang USA. Why not bring in competitive teams. NDSU brings the Football and SDSU brings the basketball. I would have preferred Mo St over Kennesaw. Mo St is still the #1 choice though if they wanted to move in my opinion.

Im glad we have KSU not Mo State. Would rather travel a few more miles to NDSU or SDSU than Mo State.

Mo St would bring a solid over all athletic department and would make only the 2nd FBS team in that state. While Kennesaw is better than an EKU or Tarelton St. I do not see how anyone thinks overall they would be a better add than Missouri St.

FIU has one rival and one rival only. That would be the University of Miami. They have no time to be hyped for anything else and no ability to have more than one rival.
