NU kicks off the 2023 baseball season with a 3-game series at UNC Greensboro.

The Spartans were 34-30 in 2022 and got an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional after winning the SoCon tournament title.

NU beat UNC Greensboro 11-0, to get their first opening day win since 2016.

NU broke a scoreless tie by scoring 5 runs in the 7th and 6 in the 8th.

Starter Wyatt Scotti got the win (5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K).

Mike Sirota, Jimmy Sullivan, Carmelo Musacchia and Justin Bosland had 2 hits apiece. Sirota had a double, triple with 4 RBI.

Eric Yost is on the hill Saturday at 2pm.

NU blew a 6-1 lead and lost 7-6 on a walk-off hit. The Huskies scored six runs on seven hits in the first three innings, but were only able to muster five hits in the rest of the game.

Jordy Allard in his 2nd inning of relief with NU up 6-4, gave up the 3 runs in the 9th.

Starter Eric Yost went 4.1 innings, notching four K's and no walks - he allowed four runs on nine hits.

The two teams play the rubber game Sunday at 1pm on ESPN+.

NU takes the series with a wild 12-9 win vs. UNCG.

NU was down 3-0 early until the 4th inning when they scored 4 runs, including a 3-run homer from catcher and Jimmy Sullivan. This then turned into a see-saw game.

The game was tied at 8 in the 8th when freshman Cam Maldonado’s RBI double gave NU the lead, but again UNCG tied it on a RBI single.

But in the 9th, 1B Tyler McGregor crushed a game-winning 2-run homer to give NU the 11-9 lead. Danny Crossen’s RBI double made it 12-9.

Freshman RHP Charlie Walker (2 IP, 1 H, 4K) and D2 transfer RHP Griffin Young (2 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) held down UNCG. Young gets the win.

NU heads back down south on Friday to face the Red Sox before playing 3 games vs. Indiana State.
