Me too! His two "dream jobs" in my mind were OSU and ND. Ryan Day will NOT survive another loss to U-M and Freeman had a less than stellar year in South Bend. I expected him to tread water in Cincy for another year as a result.

His embrace of Ben Bryant and this move to Wisconsin, however, indicates that the cupboard may be going bare in southern Ohio.

The Wisconsin opening provided possibly the easiest road to a P5 conference championship game year over year being in the B1G West. Also, with the realignment in the near future those schools will be flushed with cash from their TV deals.

Lester seemed like a good guy, sucks for him. I assume he picks up a decent job moving forward

Tulsa needs a new coach! CC would be a nice fit! Coached in Iowa!

I would think a Midwest school. Not sure about Tulsa.

BTW, CC has children in h.s. (I believe) and I'm not sure he wants to uproot.

CC has coached in Kansas, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan. Oklahoma isnt THAT far out of the realm of possibility.

I say "no" but people can disagree on this one.

Please guys we have ZERO worries here. MAC coaches are too hard to sell to any donor base willing to pay more for a football coach. Fleck was indeed a unicorn, and his record along with his personality have been unmatched by any MAC coach in the recent past. Carey had far better credentials than CC but was only hired by Temple late after their original hire, Manny Diaz decided to go to Miami. Carey bombed as well. Leipold was a "last minute" hire at possibly the worst P5 job in the nation, he simply was their best choice at a horrible time, yet he had a very good MAC record.

Sports reporters have an intimate knowledge of the fine job Creighton has done, bigger school donor bases do NOT. They see 27-43 only. I remember a Free Press reporter who suggested that MSU had two choices to replace Dantonio. One, was a bearded CC and the other was a clean-shaven Creighton. Ishbia and others, however, felt differently and they went after Fickell and others before settling on Mel Tucker.

Candle, Creighton and McElwain always seem to be on the list of candidates published by the media, but I seriously doubt any of them are actually "first page" of the bigger schools searching for a new coach. Charlotte will hire a Biff Poggi from Michigan with ZERO head coaching experience instead. Fair? No, but it is what it is.

That is EXACTLY why I always supported rational criticism of Creighton's coaching but NEVER advocated for his replacement. He took on an incredibly hard job that was hardly a springboard for his future.

RE: Coaching Carousel Thread 2022
Agreed Jerry. Not to mention, 8-4 is Creighton’s best season, and none of those 8 wins came against bowl eligible teams. In fact, we’ve only played 2 bowl eligible teams all year (5-6 Buffalo has a chance to make it 3), a blowout loss to 6-6 ULL and a home loss to 7-5 Toledo and their backup QB. While I’m satisfied with the season, especially winning the Michigan MAC Trophy, its a tough sell as a resume for other schools. Not to mention Creighton is no spring chicken. I can’t imagine any P5 schools calling, and I don’t expect him to leave his cushy contract for a lateral move. He isn’t going anywhere.

I think it is worth pointing out that the last two successful MAC coaches hired into P5 were late hires - Fleck to Minnesota and Leipold to Kansas.

Whew! WMU has some guts to fire Lester who has a winning MAC record. Their next coach is probably going to make a million dollars per season. If you get a very good coach in there, he could run the table’s because there are not many coaching gurus in the MAC.

We need our western friends to make another mediocre coaching decision - give us a few years of wins over both central and western to reset the narrative

No. No. He won't be there for EMU. 03-lmfao

As I've suggested before, posters here seem to be in love with Grand Valley, Ferris, etc.

Guess it goes back to the CMU struck gold with Brian Kelly, so...

I plead guilty to your assertion of preferring head coaches from lower-level schools. Our three most successful coaches in the men's revenue sports, Harkema, Braun and Creighton certainly did.

I like two things:

They fit MAC budgets, we are actually "poaching" them with more money. Unlike Chuck Martin at Miami, they are not taking a pay cut.

A head coach is the CEO of the program. He hires the assistants, establishes position recruiting budgets, markets the program and is the "closer" on recruiting. Those are tasks that P5 assistants have little experience with.

Nevertheless, at the end of the day, I think the interview process is crucial. You find a PJ Fleck or Nate Oats, hire them.

Why are you making fun of posters who love Annese when Western is contacting him? Maybe we’re not all dummies after all?

I as well think Annese woukd be a good FBS coach. He runs a tight ship and is very successful.

Here's a thought...for those of you that think Annese wouldn't work because he coaches Division 2 and that he couldn't make the next step.......CC coached where before EMU?
