Funny to see JMU fans ranking themselves in the top 2 or 3 when they’ve played one of the worst FBS programs in the nation and an FCS team.

Coastal is 3-0 and I still don’t think we are even in the top half of the SunBelt.

None of the first five people in this thread to put JMU in the top three were JMU fans.

I very much see a world where JMU wins this weekend. We are beat up right now in the linebacking core/secondary and JMU has fresh legs. We are however battle tested and they are not. A lot of improvement needs to happen with our defense this week. I will say this about JMU. I think there will be a lot of hype this week if they beat us and deservedly so but I think their struggles will be in the second half of the season when they’ve consistently played FBS teams week in and week out and started to have some injuries piling up but are still playing legitimate teams.

Think you might be just a little bit biased based on what happened this last weekend at App State?

For the record, I just think Troy was a better team.

RE: Sun Belt Power Rankings Week 3
I never post the rankings that are in my head, but with JMU it’s still difficult. We can’t tell too much from their FCS game so we only have the MTSU game to really judge them. All other schools have 3 games under their belt and most have played a P5 team already. And while JMU was completely dominant, MTSU has beaten an 0-3 FCS team and an 0-3 Colorado State team. I think JMU could be anywhere from #1 to #10 or so but probably in top 5. These rankings will sort themselves out - starting this week. Can App get “up” for the third week in a row? JMU is coming off a bye and I think they are catching App at the perfect time.

RE: Sun Belt Power Rankings Week 3
As a new frequenter to the Sun Belt board I just want to drop a quick reminder. Being in the Sun Belt has already been more enjoyable for me, as a fan, in under three months, than the entire time we were in the other place. It is great over here, and best of all I feel a sense of camaraderie which I never did over there.

I know the ooc portion of our schedules is winding down, and we will soon set our sights on each other. But this is the Fun Belt. This poll, this board, the trash-talk, and even college football itself, it's all for fun. The season is short, the off-season long. Relish the tailgates, the rollercoaster ride, and all that goes with each season. We all had the good sense to have chosen this as a passion.

Go Sun Belt!
Go MONARCHS!!

My first inclination was to say “Hell yes we can get up for this game, it is JMU”, but then I remembered that I was 45 and those 30 and under may not harbor the same sports hate for JMU that I do. But I will be there loud and proud and if I get hit by a stupid streamer, I’m coming up to the visitor section with my laser pointer. Just ask Georgia Southern how effective the laser pointer is.

I agree. And I don’t know that we really learn much from JMU this week either. They could win and shat the bed as the season progresses. They could lose 55-0 and then run off a streak of wins. Ain’t college football wild?

From a Troy perspective, no. APP winning the way they did is what Nick Saban calls the "kiss of death". Going into a JMU team playing with their hair on fire, I think they get the "W". As someone already pointed out, APP has been in three close games and will need to dig deep against a JMU team trying to make a statement on a big stage. Just my opinion.

Coastal just wants a reason to not like us. And if there's no reason, make one up.
I'm a JMU fan and I think putting us at 5 is pretty damn generous. Definitely wouldn't put us at top 2 or 3. That seems a bit ridiculous right now.
If we beat App, then absolutely top 2 or 3. But we have yet to prove anything. We have just won the games we were supposed to win. As many are saying (and I agree), the true test is this weekend. This will truly show if we are for real or just a pretender.
I don't think we'll win, but I do expect a very close game.

People's rankings are kinda all over the place, and really that's what you'd expect this early in the year. Especially when there's been some pretty crazy **** like a team beating Notre Dame then losing to Bowling Green or playing UNC down to the wire then losing to Charlotte. Things will get clearer as the year goes on, I have JMU high for now but where we are after two games won't really matter two months from now. We should learn a lot about just how good we actually are in 5 days, I hope both teams are at their best. 2011 does seem to have a bit of an irrational hatred of JMU but that's cool, rivalries are great and I hope we can make all Coastal fans hate us even more by the end of the season 04-cheers

Agreed. 2 emotional weeks can take a toll on the players even with the weeks being positive.

It could go either way. App has no doubt been tested far more than JMU has, but could have taken a toll. Also could mean they are more prepared for a close game and keep their composure. They found a way to win as wild as that win was.
As for JMU, I know Cignetti has been saying our wins haven't said much yet as we really haven't played an opponent on the level of App State. I believe our team isn't going to be going into this game overconfident.
While JMU has had 2 weeks to prepare, there are plenty of times where the team coming off the bye week starts out slow. I am really hoping that isn't the case, but wouldn't surprise me.

Good teams find a way to win. With all of the attention app was getting, this was best case scenario to me. A very big scare for the team to refocus them.

And to compare JMU to UNC and TAMU is silly. Could JMU win? Sure. Should they? No.

Good thing about these polls is that we all get to prove it on the field.

I think for people really looking at these, they are looking at current results. But I think looking at who they are playing next is just as important as to the this weeks accuracy.

Basically just take vegas's take and then incorporate into your ranking.

I know we're underdogs to Tulane 3-0 this week. I am hopeful for a win though.
