GAME THREAD - ODU v. UVA, Saturday, 9/17, 2:00pm, ACC Network
UVA beat Richmond 34-17 in their opener but lost to Illinois 3-24 in Champaign Saturday when Brennan Armstrong was sacked five times, and the running game was held to 42 yards on 29 carries. Looks like losing their top six offensive linemen from last year has made it pretty tough on Armstrong, who set UVA's all-time season passing record with 4,449 yards in 2021.
I think the Monarchs can put 28 or so points on the board and can take this one if the defense controls the line of scrimmage and keeps pressure on Armstrong, but that could be a real challenge. Who gets the win will depend on whether our defense is more like Illinois or Richmond.

Beat the Hoos! Bunch of pretentious a-holes.
Prepare for cabernet, cheese, and white tablecloths at the tailgate. Also, don't you dare call it "campus" - they call it "the grounds".

They are definitely the wine and cheese crowd and there is nothing wrong with that except the undeserving air of superiority that surrounds them. They are basically what JMU crowd will be if they were P5. Hopefully our offense gets to work both on ground and in the air in this one.

I love wine and cheese as much as the next guy but I ain’t wearing a tie to a damn football game.
I think if we’re able to establish the running game we’ve got a good chance of winning. Our D should able to get in their backfield

Give me a Bojangles box and a case of domestic light beer all day long.
I'll drink wine at a tailgate... if it is fortified.
And that cheese better either be queso blanco or Velveeta!

I'd like the Wahoos to lose, but I'd hate for ODU to beat them.
Can a UVA-ODU football game really produce a winner? Or just one team that's less of a loser?

Not really sure why JMU fans tails are so waggy. y'all ain't playing nobody yet. Not sure if you're paying attention to what's going on but ODU actually needs to beat UVA for the Sunbelt's brand. Everybody's talking about the Sunbelt right now and every Power five win helps!

So if ODU beats UVA that makes them the top football team in Virginia right? That would set up a nice showdown matchup on 11/12 with JMU...that might even get bumped up from +

You are truly, aptly named. That is a retroview. I'd guess next to your own, JMU are your biggest fans this weekend. They aren't gonna tell you that, but they want that win against UVA almost as much as you do. The rest of us want another P5 scalp. You guys want an instate P5 humiliated.

Rough day in Greenville last week, but the butterflies bounce back against the worst FBS team in Virginia this week. They should give JMU/ODUh the Commonwealth Cup name and change UVA/VT to something softer like the VA Pillow Fight or The Charmin Toilet Bowl.

Oh, all right. I hope UVA loses. That’s as far as I go. If ODU is given a W as a result, I can’t be held accountable.
I need a shower.

We have the navy base, good beer, and the beach. Conference rivals cannot resist our charms forever. Everyone will root for us eventually

I'm trying to figure out what JMU crowds have to do with wine & cheese?
JMU is the anti-UVA if anything.
I guess when you have the academic reputation of ODU, everyone looks like UVA, huh?

The last time I was in Harrisonburg, a cow got loose near the cidery. Definitely not UVA

Yeah you guys don't look down on others at all my bad. Wine and cheese crowd has nothing to do with academic reputation and I am just making my point that you guys are indeed pansies like the UVA.

Until JMU defeats ODU on the football field, their talk is just that. When ODU joined CAA, JMU fans were all talk. When ODU first played JMU in Norfolk, JMU fans were all talk. And when ODU traveled to Harrisonburg the following year to seal the best CAA record (as the league would not let us win the championship as we announced our intention to leave) JMU fans were all talk.
JMU has a great history and hope they do well in the SunBelt, and ODU is thrilled about renewing this series. But, make no mistake, this is not a rivalry until both sides draw blood, and JMU has yet to do so.

Good lord, let it go. You took a topic which would have had universal support from the JMU crowd and tried to re-start the same conversation that got the last thread moved to Smack Talk. I guarantee every one of us that opened this thread did so with the original intent of wishing you luck. Oh well, at least you are derailing your own thread this time.
