Good news for Marshall, maybe not the upcoming teams on the schedule
Marshall currently has the third ranked rushing attack in FBS. Laborn was just named National running back of the week by the Doak Walker committee, and, out of nowhere, Rasheen Ali was dressed at practice today. Ali and Laborn splitting carries is a pretty good scenario for our offense.

How do you handle that? Laborn has earned this spot at this point.

Friendly reminder that the source I normally trust Phil Steel had Marshall ranked like 7th in the Sunbelt for running back.

I have a feeling we were potentially under ranked.

When Ali is ready you work him back in. Let Laborn start, give Ali the next possession and play it from there. We’re running it 40 times a game, that’s plenty of carries for both.

We're going to need both, but at this point I would still give Laborn the 1A carries, he showed extreme patience at Notre Dame. Default to the senior and let Ali earn that role back.

Crazy to think both of these guys are probably NFL talents. Reminds me of the backfield that Louisiana and Memphis used to have.

Nah, that's flat out good news. I hope that whatever he was going through is resolved and he's doing well, that's more important than having a better chance to beat Marshall 04-cheers Besides, we don't want any excuses when you add to our ridiculous record at Bridgeforth over the past seven years 05-mafia

Sounds awesome!

You know at App we aren’t so bad at the running back position ourselves :)

For me it would at least in part depend on just why he walked away for a bit. I had heard it was a pretty serious injury, but if he's back then that certainly doesn't appear to be the case. But without knowing the reason I would certainly have Laborn being the starter with Ali now being 2nd string. He'll still get a ton of carries, but Laborn has earned it. BUT the coach knows the real reasons behind the timeout for Ali and that may sway things. Personally I don't care why he stepped away, he's now the backup. I don't think an injury should make a starter lose his position. But since that now doesn't appear to the be case he shouldn't be able to just walk back into the starting spot.

Coach knows and has it under control. This reminds me of the 2001 Toledo team with Chester "Geritol" Taylor and the Baby Backs... Trinity Dawson and the other cat. Except we are much better. Laborn, Ali, and Payne? Get outta here!!!!!

Im not convinced about Ali yet. I want to know what was REALLY wrong.... Leave Laborn in as #1 and make Ali earn it back... Sorry. It is what it is...

Like you said, Huff has it under control. Whatever his decision we'll all live with. Let Laborn start and let Ali get his feet wet during the second series and see what happens. It's all good.

Agree, but I am really more interested more now than ever as to why Ali was out for 6 games... we beat #8 Notre Dame, and now he is mysteriously healed? This doesn't pass the sniff test with me. Sorry.

My sincere reply is “why sniff”? We don’t know and will never know (most likely) why Ali was out. There’s no path in speculation that ends well because that’s just the way speculation works. It could be an injury, it could be mental, it could be that his grandma was diagnosed with HPV. It doesn’t matter.

I get what you're saying. I just wish if he was exhausted and/or the pressure got to him, then just say that he needs rest and is taking a couple weeks off. It just looks bad to me that it was announced that he was out for a lengthy period and all of the sudden when another back starts to get national accolades and now he is mysteriously cured????? Just looks bad to me... That's all. I mean, I'm glad he's better.....

We have one of our best players returning and you are upset. If it "looks bad" to you, just don't look.

I agree. Something isn't right here. I hope it's all handled properly internally as we've got a really good thing going and don't need anything to cause division or issues with the team.
