LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
I have been pleased with a 2-0 start, and with us not playing good offensive football yet. BIG step up in competition this week on the road. Wake is favored by a comfortable 16.5 and I believe they will cover the spread.

17 Liberty
42 Wake Forest

As always, we can win, and I hope we do! All Flames, all day!!!

I'm really curious to see how our defense will fair. I have zero confidence in our offense at this point, just too early in the schedule for Salter to be ready, but we'll see. 38 WF, 21 LU.

RE: LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
Our defense will allow some points but they will do enough to keep us in the game.. The offense will struggle and we lose by a comfortable (for WF) 3 score margin.

WF- 27
LU- 10

When this game was scheduled, I actually thought it might be a winnable P5 game. Arkansas too in 2022. Both teams really have done a nice job rising. Now both teams look highly difficult.

RE: LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
This loss is squarely on Freeze. This is the third game he’s lost going for the win and not overtime.

Have we ever won a game going for the win rather than playing for overtime?

Not bad for a 16 point underdog. I think we gave Wake Forest all they wanted. I have no problem going for the win on the road. Just didn’t really like the play call.

RE: LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
Held them to 345 total yards, 21 rushing. Broke in the passing coverage a few too many times, but as bad as our offense was to start, pretty legit to slow them down as much as we did. Hate moral victories, but with our QB situation still getting sorted out, I'm not as bothered by this.

Speaking of which ... wopuldn't have been nice to not have those two back that we wasted on putting QB behind center?

We really played well against a high-[pwered offense. I am really proud of the effort tonight. Just wish we could have hit on one of those missed FGs. I'm not greedy, just one woyld have been fine.

Or not fumble the ball inside the 5.

Lol, yeah. That's the hard part about losses like this. So many "if onlys," messes with the mind. I even go back to one of the last series of the game when they scored a TD. We sacked the QB in their own territory and then did a late and pointless facemask after he was already down. In a parallel universe, not doing that results in a stop and win.

RE: LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
Coming that close to a win and not getting it sucks. There are a few over on ASOR that blame Coach Freeze for the loss. I think that’s absolutely ridiculous. Without Coach Freeze’s recruiting and coaching abilities, we would not have even been in the game last night. Salter is improving each week, but his inexperience still pops up at times. If an experienced Malik were playing last night, we win that game. If we played Wake later in the season after Salter gains more experience, I think we win.

I agree. A lesser coach wouldn't have been able to work to Salters strengths like HF does and we wouldn't have moved the ball nearly as well as we did. He's not right every time but it was a close game because of him not despite him.

RE: LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
I disagree. It was the coaches fault we lost this one as far as I am concerned. He even said as much in his comments following the game. He suggested hindsight being 20/20 he would have gone for the PAT. This isn’t our first time losing on a decision to risk winning the game over extending the game. I don’t like it and wouldn’t have gone that way, but I appreciate the belief in the kids to do it and their excitment to get it done.

RE: LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
There was no guarantee that going for the PAT would result in a win. It was no sure thing that the kicker would even make the PAT to get a tie. If there was a tie there was no guarantee that Wake would not have scored and won before regulation time ran out. If we had been able to go to overtime there was no certainty that we would have won in OT. I remember the previous mediocre results and boneheaded play calling before Coach Freeze came. Ask a fan of a team whose coach plays not to lose and see how excited they are about having that coach. Would it have been nice to beat Wake? Absolutely. But I don’t think that we would even have been in a position to go for the win without Coach Freeze. I think the 4 turnovers probably had more to do with the loss than Coach Freeze’s decision to go for the win.

RE: LIBERTY @ WAKE FOREST
I like how freeze had a rational reason for the play call he made. Basically saying that they were playing man all day and this play likely would've worked against man but they switched it up and went to zone which blew the play up. Any coach that comes out and puts blame on anyone but himself in these situations isn't someone I want around. What was he supposed to say? "I wouldn't have needed to go for two if my QBs would stop throwing interceptions or if my kickers could make a FG"?
