I'm sure people will still use the term "G5" anyway.

Its the right message, but the wrong messenger, because the thread turned into this:

Completely pointless., much like changing IAA to "FCS".

I now use the terms SBC and Not SBC to distinguish between quality and the rest.

Mid-major just makes it the same lingo as basketball. Don't really care as long as if the SBC champ is one of the top 6 champs ranked.

I mean it has became the P2 really. It's crazy to think about, but there is almost as much separation money wise between the BIG10/SEC and the other 3 "power" conferences as there is between the 3 and the rest of us.

Just remove all labels. You're either FBS or not. With the newly expanded playoff there is a legit opportunity for a SBC to make it in. That's about as good as we can have hoped for. I was scared that the P2 was going to breakaway and create their own for a while.

I don't know about others, but I have always considered the term "mid-majors" to be pejorative. I'm sure that has everything to do with the context in which it has been used.

It's not as though the haves don't enjoy enormous, unnatural advantages in every sense, the media who also gains from this has to waive it under everyone's nose, all of the time.

I like Vannini but this take pisses me off. We don't need a second class citizen name.

I've been going with super 2, power 3, G5 and I think that makes a lot of sense. I've seen others use the same and have seen some other things like power 2, middle 3, things like that.

I agree with EigenEagle that it's kinda pointless to try and rebrand the G5 as mid-major or anything like that and similar to changing I-AA to FCS. I guess it makes a little more sense with mid-major being something people are used to and will easily understand though, whereas FBS/FCS just kinda confused people and made it so you had to explain it to them. Currently you have to explain P5/G5 to people, mid-major would probably make it easier for them to get it without any prior knowledge. I-A/I-AA and major/mid-major are pretty intuitive.

It's all gonna go away, and that's the beauty of the 6+6... except for P2 maybe

There'd really be no need for any groupings if the playoff were a logical 10+6 (10 conference champs plus the six next highest ranked teams).

That's really how it is now, defacto. They just have to slap.the labels on 'em.

You can call poop, UNCC but it still stinks and is better than UNCC. How did that dumbchit Aresco's idea of p6 go? No one cares and it doesn't matter. You just have to make it count where it matters and things will fall in place. #TogetherWeRise

I don't mind the mid-major label, I very much agree on the polls though. They're all D1, no need for a separate poll. And then you get things like the A10 somehow convincing the mid-major polls that they're a power conference lol

Yep. If the SBC can continue the ascension and assert themselves as (at least) the 6th best CFB conference in college football and produces the highest ranked "G5" on an annual basis, once the CFP expands we'll have more of an argument of "P6" than any "non power" league in the history of the sport.

It will give a huge boost for our recruiting/marketing to get to a place where a playoff spot goes through our league more times than not. Definitely a "P6" claim you can take more seriously. We are in a good spot to make it happen. Even more so if other leagues happen to get picked off in the process. Gill needs to continue pushing everyone.

Mid Major is a terrible idea, tell Vanini to dump that one quick.
