Greetings from Cajun Nation. This weekend's attendance was adversely affected by drenching rains that fell all day up until game time. Ironically, the rain stopped just before the game, and it was very pleasant during the game. Right now, the weather forecast looks the same for this weekend, even to the point the rain is projected to end prior to game time. I hope some of your fans can make it down for the game. I believe you will enjoy Cajun Country.

Does the field ever flood?

There is a very good drainage system under the playing field that prevents the field from flooding, despite the fact that the field is lower than the surrounding elevation. Before the artificial turf was installed, it would get muddy on the sidelines, but I never recall the actual playing field flooding.

Hi Folks! Looking forward to our (nationally televised) game at Cajun Field this weekend against some good FBS competition. Our fan podcast will be streaming live on several different platforms tonight, and we encourage you to join us. We'll get started at 7:15pm CST. There will be the opportunity for live feedback, so we look forward to hearing from some EMU fans!

Hi Cajuns1, thanks for the info. Won't be able to make the podcast but I think for me (and likely other EMU fb fans) we are trying to get from a middle of the road team, to the top of the G5 similar to your program. Head Coach Chris Creighton has done an amazing job getting us out of the basement and into competitive games week in and week out. He inherited a dumpster fire 9 years ago and in recent years we have beaten 3 Big 10 teams, have had vastly improved recruiting classes, upgraded athletic facilities and most importantly changed the culture. It's been fun to watch and now the challenge is how to get to the top of G5 discussions. Going to a bowl game was once a Longshot and now it is the expectation. We have a great group of posters on this site who are both irrational at times (me) and mostly passionate about seeing us succeed. I predict us at 6-6 or 7-5 on the season.

Yep. The old 'buy a bunch of lottery tickets and hope one is a winner' approach to kicking.

Last season we had a bunch of punters and kickers just sitting there behind very well established and talented players.

We just didn't know that Mitchell and Jesus had so much ability.

BTW, a smart coach keeps an extra scholarship in his back pocket. Just in case a walk on proves to be a real find and deserves one.

Ideally both Mitchell and Jesus look like players worthy of a scholarship.

We're Kicking U. We sent our K to the Terps of the B1G and our P to the NFL.

You could call us EKU. No, that would be confusing with the REAL EKU.

I ran into the family where Julian was living, in case not already reported, he was cut from the Patriots.

Yes but he will have a lucrative career in the CFL if an NFL team doesn’t pick him up.

Ok, I also want to say howdy, and that we are looking forward to a good game this Saturday.

And while we appreciate the positive comments about CF, let me say that they made me truly LOL. It was built in 1972 and has served us well for many years, but now it is in desperate need of renovation. And I do mean desperate. (Well, the stadium, that is, the actual field is still in great shape and is indeed pretty awesome.)

The plan is to demolish the entire upper west deck, and replace it with suites, offices, etc., and which was planned to start in 2021. However, with covid, inflation, etc., that has been delayed. We are hoping now that it will happen after this season. Here are some renderings of what it will look like once it is done:

Cajun Field Renovations

But for those lucky enough to make the trip, we guarantee a good time….we love playing host and have some of the best food you will ever eat in our tailgating. Not to mention all the great restaurants in town. Let us know if anyone needs guidance on what to do, stay, etc.

Also, while CF is a dump, the rest of our athletic complex is really nice….CF is the last of many upgrades that have been planned for and done from our master plan. Our basketball/baseball/softball, etc., facilities are some of the best in the G5 world. But the site is actually a small distance from our main campus, which is truly beautiful and unique. So if you do come, please make the effort to tour it…we even have an honest to goodness cypress swamp right in the middle of campus, full of gators, turtles and all kinds of birds.

Cypress Lake

Here’s to a good, fun and safe game!

Man, I wish the other MAC programs were half as cordial. thank you for the words and we appreciate you.

I just added NFL Network to my cable subscription so I can watch the game Saturday. I'm really looking forward to this game as I think it's the perfect measuring stick going up against a very good G5. The Cajuns are exactly where I want EMU to go with a winning culture, investments in the stadium and good crowds. I think this game will be close and entertaining. We will learn a lot about our team this week. I'm still hoping we get a surprise W either this week or next when we go to Arizona State. Going 1-1 in the next 10 days would put us in real discussions of moving up the G5 ladder.

3 things I'm hoping to see....
1. More aggressive defensive play. We had hardly any QB pressures last week and our secondary played so far off.

2. Run early and own the clock. Bates returns at Center this week and I think our line needs to open holes in qtr 1.

3. Powell settles in early. He looked terrible in the 1st half last week and better in the 2nd. On the road in this environment, we can't afford a bad quarter or even series.

Just a heads up: like everyone else we are struggling with attendance and it is extremely frustrating (putting it mildly) for anyone who cares about our program. Besides all the usual excuses (games now broadcasted, hot/rainy weather, other events, etc.) we are also cursed to have that school in Baton Rouge only ~50 miles from us, and a large contingent of their fans in our area. This is especially sad considering all of our recent success. Last week we had ~16k in the stands, but it was very rainy and an fcs opponent. We are hoping for better this weekend, but no doubt we will be disappointed again. What makes it worse is the 40k capacity, which can make even a decent crowd of 25-30k seem small.

we know all too well the feeling of living in the shadow of a larger program. the big house is 6 miles down the road from our stadium.
