There are a few teams in the MAC today who would be happy to trade places with them.

Yes, there is room for improvement and when the team gets together tomorrow to review the game film, there are going to be a lot of asses chewed. That's how teams grow and get better. Learn from their mistakes, gain experience, and look to your next opponent.

Personally, I'm not particularly upset that EKU had all those yards. They were forced to play from a long field, so even when they didn't score or were held to a field goal, they added on a lot of yards. The Eagles generally played from a short field. So the yards don't necessarily reflect the effectiveness of the offense. Yes, after all the hype I was disappointed by the Defense's performance, as I am sure they were. But I still believe the talent on that D is better than last year, and believe we will see that come through as the season goes on.

What matters most in my mind is what the scoreboard says at 00:00. There is nothing wrong with winning ugly.

The Eagles are 1-0.

Gosh I wish I would have written your post! Incredibly spot on.

Great comment, but not comparable! SDSU was in the FCS national championship game last year! They're A top echelon FCS school! Also, Iowa didn't give up 500 yds to them either!

Is EMU comparable to Iowa? I think Wooden’s point is very solid, imo.

Cool.

I’ve been an EMU guy since before you were born. I’ve seen a lot of bad football. CC’s record to this point deserved criticism.

You should sick to posting about labor strife.

Great post Holy!!! I love CC as all of my posts have stated. I have been very critical of our run offense and our ability to stop the run. I have not been critical of our Oline just the scheme. In earlier posts I predicted EMU may have the best D in the conference next season when Price and Swindle gain some experience. They’re growing up In front of us and we will see if they can sustain a high level during the season. Our run offense against Arizona State was an anomaly but if we can build on the success running the ball this game then we should see a lot of Ws. Very cautiously optimistic based on seasons past.

Agree 100% Luckey.

I just think it’s interesting that the day after arguably the biggest win in our history, someone is digging up and taking a dump on an old post of mine. Kind of an interesting mindset.

I’m ecstatic — couldn’t be happier to be wrong. I’ve always been supportive of the players. It’s true that I can be critical of the coaches, but I am honest about what I see, and I always will be. Why?

1) I love EMU in general, and the athletic department as well.
2) As I mentioned before, I’ve seen a lot of bad EMU football. That tends to erode one’s patience over time. I don’t think the young alums understand what that is like. Hopefully they never will.
3) I felt CC’s overall record deserved scrutiny, particularly given the context of his seemingly “lifetime” contract.

This is an amazing beginning. There is an opportunity for a special year. And maybe we are transforming into a program that can compete at the top of the MAC. But this is only the beginning. If the team loses to Buffalo and UMASS, the opportunity will be squandered, and once again I will have more questions about the staff. I doubt that will be the case, but assessments are made as evidence is collected over time.

In the worst case scenario, I am extremely grateful for a very special win.

I was wrong also about ASU and just freaking delighted to be so. Creighton has been a godsend and clearly deserves some slack. That said, scrutiny should be welcomed to a coach you have given such a long contract yet has not won a championship as EVERY other MAC West team has done during his tenure. That's natural.

I'm glad you both participate on the board and are fervent EMU fans like me. Was that a GREAT win or what?

I am happy the board is active and am also happy that currently nobody is offering to fight board members (ahem, ET).
It’s a board post poking fun at another recent post. I mean, what’s the fun of a sports board if we can’t bust each other’s chops a bit?

ive also been saying ASU was a mess for months and i believe i deserve some props.

we go 9-3 and the coaching carousel thread gets a LOT more interesting - especially is lance leipold gets plucked from Kansas for Nebraska like folks are saying.

Good point Steve. What happens if we do go 9-3???

we go 9-3 and the coaching carousel thread gets a LOT more interesting - especially is lance leipold gets plucked from Kansas for Nebraska like folks are saying.
What Lance Leipold did at Buffalo was very impressive! Buffalo wasn't good before him, and they're struggling without him, but what he's doing at Kansas is incredible so far! CC, if we go 9-3 should leave, He can provide for his family for generations if he went to A big 12 school! If we play defense like we did on Saturday, and if we can run the ball, We've a very good chance to go 11-1! Those are two big ifs though!

I'm going to repeat a comment I made recently: Fertile ground.

A lot of MAC coaches go from a 'we accomplish a lot with limited resources' to situations where with greater resources they thrive, sometimes big time.

As we have discussed over the years, hard to keep say assistant coaches when they can up their salary by 2 or 3 or more fold.

EMU doesn't have the dollars to increase FB salaries by say 50%, but they were through other means to build the SAPC. That doesn't put steak on the table of assistant coaches, but it (obviously) helps build the program significantly.

Couple things we can say: recruiting is getting better and we just got another P5 victory.

RE: So…
Other MAC program fans have recognized that CC works miracles here. Maybe it's time our own fans recognize that too.

Its been a blast following this team for the past 7 years or so. I started following as a way to follow a local D1 program who has in-state talent. Also, I believe in CC and what he is trying to do. From near winless seasons to a bowl expectation, from being happy to get a 3 star to now could we potentially pluck a 4 star, from below average facilities to the SAPC and Gervin Center this has been a lot of fun.

I am sticking to what I predicted with 8-4 is the goal, 7-5 is good and 6-6 would be disappointing given the talent on the team and a 9th year coach. For the 1st time in all my years following I feel like after this ASU win that we could really be turning the tide and getting into a higher tier of G5. (If we play like we did, then I reasonably see us going 8-4 and possibly 9-3 which is crazy) The amount of national attention this game got for us and with the next 2 games against Buffalo and Umass could allow us to really get momentum going in a way I havent seen.
