What I want to know (and have been too lazy to find out) is about the 12 or 13 FBS transfers EKU has.

What I mean if they are stocking up with P5 transfers then why shouldn't they be a very competitive team? I don't know how much improved they are vs. 2021.

BTW, the Sagarins ranking had EKU ranked higher last season than BG and Akron.

None of those in bold are power five schools.

But aren't all of them FBS schools? I think my comments were they were FBS schools not they were P5 transfers. Regardless EKU had an infusion of players from an upper level which is the point.

Too many people think there's some huge talent gap between G5 and FCS. There's not. A good team lime EKU loaded up with transfers and is basically the equivalent of a MAC team. Not blowing them out is not a surprise. This was not the same as Monmouth or Mississippi Valley State when they came to Ypsi.

Creighton is an EMU lifer. Just hover around 6-6, get those bowl appearances, and keep having years added to that contract.

Great comment, but not comparable! SDSU was in the FCS national championship game last year! They're A top echelon FCS school! Also, Iowa didn't give up 500 yds to them either!

RE: So…
The Eagles are 1-0.

There are a few teams in the MAC today who would be happy to trade places with them.

Yes, there is room for improvement and when the team gets together tomorrow to review the game film, there are going to be a lot of asses chewed. That's how teams grow and get better. Learn from their mistakes, gain experience, and look to your next opponent.

Personally, I'm not particularly upset that EKU had all those yards. They were forced to play from a long field, so even when they didn't score or were held to a field goal, they added on a lot of yards. The Eagles generally played from a short field. So the yards don't necessarily reflect the effectiveness of the offense. Yes, after all the hype I was disappointed by the Defense's performance, as I am sure they were. But I still believe the talent on that D is better than last year, and believe we will see that come through as the season goes on.

What matters most in my mind is what the scoreboard says at 00:00. There is nothing wrong with winning ugly.

The Eagles are 1-0.

I agree, Cid. I'd rather win ugly than lose pretty. I think I echo most commenters that the frustration has more to do with coaching style (4-2-5) than the players. It is a fact that we have more talent on the defensive side this year than compared to last

My observations from watching this game 2x by now.
1. Powell really isn't much different than Bryant. He's good, not great.
2. Jayson Jackson....wow. He is a homerun hitter.
3. Samson Evans looks better
4 Sparacio and Kline are light years better than the LB's Neathery trotted out last year.
5. We are deep in the Secondary and the coaches rotated a lot of guys in
6 Our W.R.'s are gold
7. It blows me away that we don't play more press coverage with our D.B.'s. We play 7 yards off and they have safety help on BOTH sides. I heard CC say in his presser that the D played well and kept the offense in front of them. That was fine when we weren't deep in talent. We are now and can play more aggressively. This soft coverage and coaching style is weak.
8. Good crows. 16,531 in attendance. Akron had like 7k.

RE: So…
My observations:

Our defense was much improved in the "art of tackling" than in the past three seasons although our DB's were still found wanting in coverage.

EKU was all over Powell early, but adjustments were made and when given time he throws the ball very accurately.

Jaylon Jackson is electric, we have not had an RB with his speed in the Creighton era, thus our reticence to run outside. Now we have ZERO excuse to do so.

I was extremely pleased with our kicking performance. Both our punter, placekicker and kick-off guy acquitted themselves well.

Hey, I stated that a "21 point victory" should be the minimum expectation and we did not get that. We have work to do for sure, but a Win is a Win, nonetheless.

EKU was indeed a formidable foe, they may have less scholarships, but they do have money spent on their program. I saw the EMU players arriving at the stadium in two leased buses. Then shortly thereafter, FOUR prominently identified EKU buses followed them to Rynearson. This was NOT a wildly inferior opponent.

Yes. I want to see the routes contested. Disrupt the runner and rhythm.
Blitzing is less risky when the secondary outmatches the route runners. Our secondary should be able to be trusted to handle this responsibility.
Right now, I am choosing to believer Neathery was holding back to not create tape .

RE: So…
Except at QB this team is loaded with talent. How to be MAC Champions because we have the talent to win it all in 2023. I would rate CC the number 1 MAC coach as an overall program manager in branding his football team and establishing an impeccable culture 2nd to none! However his overall schemes are not good enough to move his collection of very good talent to the top of the conference. Luckily this could be easily remedied next season by:

1) Must hire an Offensive Coordinator with a proven ability having a run game. Get a lower level OC that is looking for upward mobility. Maybe Game Above helps fund this position. I like WMUs offensive coordinator hire. Will CC give up the control?

2) The hardest move CC would have to make is replacing our DC or instructing Neal to switch to a 4-3 or new scheme.

Again I wouldn’t trade CC for any other MAC coach for his overall program management skills but the schemes need adjusted!!!

You’ve been hearing me preach this season after season. We can’t be almost last in running the ball and stopping the run!

Thanks ahead of time for taking the time to read a longtime EKU fan's take on all of this. I understand EMU's frustration in not winning this game by double digits, of course you have high hopes for you team, as we all do. In reality any FBS team should be a lot better than those from FCS. You all have already made this point as well as that EKU has an infusion of transfers (but would remiss in not mentioning our QB and star linebacker, as well as others, are all EKU recruits.
However, what you may not know is that EKU has a long, successful history in FCS football, and much to our fan's dismay, a proud history that went south in recent years. In the past ten years, EKU has made a consorted effort to change this. A lot of campus upgrades, getting rid of coaches and an AD who were not producing, infusing $$ into the athletic department, including Roy Kidd Stadium and a 31 million renovation of 6000 seat Alumni Coliseum coming after this season. New baseball stadium and a in- door practice facility, as well as other facility improvements. It is no secret of EKU's desire to move to FBS, and that we have been working toward that for sometime. Do not believe what you read from WKU fans, who deny their hate for EKU yet will degrade our university in chance they get. Many have not been on our campus for years, if ever. Our frustration is the lack of interest and forward thinking of past presidents to not act on this as we see our past peers benefit for such a move is discouraging to say the least (Marshall, App State, WKU, MTSU, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Akron, and now Jax State, to name a few).
EKU would have been in the Sun Belt the year that Coastal Carolina was chosen, and CC was late to that game, even though their facilities at the time were inferior to ours, they were chosen. I could see that coming during the weeks we hoped it would be us they added. Who would not choose a trip to the beach along side a football game?
There is much more to this, but won't bore you with it. What I am saying is that EKU is not Tennessee Tech, Eastern Illinois, SEMO, or some others of our former OVC conference mates or others who are happy were they are in FCS. We hope we are improving our brand and our athletic programs, and just maybe what you saw on Saturday is a better product than it has been in years? We hope it is!

It is why I hate these games against a FCS team, anything we do well is always with the caveat that it was against a FCS team. Anything that goes wrong it comes with "well if we can't do X,Y, and Z against an FCS team how are they going to..." I understand the point that EKU is a good FCS team, but frankly I don't care. If we want to start taking the next step and being thought of as a top level G5 team we shouldn't struggle in these games (last year against St. Francis was similar).

That being said, a win is a win and as an EMU fan I'll always take a win. I think with the games coming this month (LA, ASU, BUF, UMass) we will have a much feel for what this team is by the end of September. After last night though I'm not nearly as hopeful as I was.

Matthew Napier (OL) Kentucky Eastern Kentucky
K’Rojhn Calbert (OL) Tennessee Eastern Kentucky
Marquae Kirkendoll (DB) New Mexico Eastern Kentucky
Chase Lasater (LB) FAU Eastern Kentucky
David Reynolds (DL) FIU Eastern Kentucky
Mike Smith Jr. (DB) App State Eastern Kentucky
Cornelius McCoy (WR) Georgia State Eastern Kentucky
Willie Taylor III (DL) Washington State Eastern Kentucky
Jett Hendrix (DB) Tulsa Eastern Kentucky
Joeseph Sewell (RB) Middle TN State Eastern Kentucky
Jordan Marshall (DB) Ball State Eastern Kentucky
Cornelius Evans (LB) Georgia Tech Eastern Kentucky
Jett Hendrix: what an absolutely great name for a DB. Bet he's fast.

Colonel, this is a great reply and sheds light on who EKU is. I wish you guys well and I very much think you will win next week. I think I speak for most EMU fans that we are happy we aren't a doormat anymore and we desperately want to get to the top of the MAC and our schemes and play calling at times are confusing. Passionate fans like you and I who want more from coaches and admin are a good thing as we don't accept the norm.

Best of luck

Great comment, but not comparable! SDSU was in the FCS national championship game last year! They're A top echelon FCS school! Also, Iowa didn't give up 500 yds to them either!

Is EMU comparable to Iowa? I think Wooden’s point is very solid, imo.

listen pal this board isnt a place for reasoned thoughts or evidence
