For USM, UL is a big rivalry day one. Have any east teams played each other as much as USM vs UL (51 times)? We have beat UL the last 9 times we have played them. I'm sure someone will remind UL of that before we play. To play UL at home for the first time as a conference foe is going to be huge.

We have a lot of history with ULM and South as well- South especially, we've played a lot of hoops and baseball. We haven't played Troy as much but the proximity is great. We don't have much playing history with stAte, but we share a lot in common, especially the fact we both are located on Highway 49, and a lot can be made of that. TXST is the least known to us, but we have played two entertaining games in football.

What can be made of being on the same highway? The wine, dine and we own hwy 49 rivalry?

Maybe you liked CUSA better.

I was already very excited to be here in the Sun Belt with 13 other like-minded schools. Loved the article, now let's play some football. The author was right, however, I'm excited to play every single SBC team on the schedule. The division rivalries are going to be instant on both sides.

Even with Memphis and SMU in the AAC.

Those are two standout teams in a conference full of meh. Nobody is going to be packing it in to watch the Tigers and Mustangs take on the likes of Rice, Charlotte, FAU or Tulane.

There's enough heat between App, Georgia Southern, Marshall, JMU and Coastal for an entire season of compelling football, and that's not even factoring in ODU and Georgia State who could bring their own action despite not having the deep FCS rivalries the other division members have going back decades.

I can also see Southern Miss getting a nice shot in the arm due to the change in scenery and making the west interesting with the Cajuns and a rejuvenated Troy. Should make for an interesting year.

The West is different. There are manufactured rivalries and real home grown rivalries.

UL’s rivals in the new SBC: stAte, USM, Troy and USA are heated.
Texas St and ULM are teams we never want to lose to, but aren’t what most Cajun fans would consider as rivals.

Coastal (for obvious reasons) and App St are become great rivals in football.

I'd rather Troy be in the stronger division with the strongest teams. Thanks to that coach we had before the move kind of looks intentional, like we're dodging the east.

Check out the first few minutes of this:

I can't see anyone outside of the A5 competing with this from an entertainment standpoint and much of the A5 honestly.

We're in good shape! This stuff in contagious.

It would definitely appear that ESPN has forgiven Marshall our transgressions OR gave us a pass because of association with CUSA and not direct culpability in spurning them. Either way, they saw our value for the Sun Belt and vice-versa. It is truly good to be here.

I think a majority are excited to be with long-time Sun Belt foes Arkansas State, Louisiana, and ULM full time again as well as brining in Southern Miss who a lot of our fans enjoy competing against. We were playing South yearly so that doesn't change. I will admit though I enjoyed playing everyone in the East and will miss playing you all every year at the same time though. Had we just added USM + Marshall we would have been fine in the East still. However now that we are at 14 I prefer the West full time.

I believe the West will build into a stronger division sooner than later and rivalries will get more intense overall. The " bottom rung" teams will inevitably strengthen and will soon be as equally as competitive as the East.

Troy's not even heated with USA, much let alone the Cajuns. I can't think of a single program outside of the shamecocks of Jax State that Troy fans were ever really heated with. UAB I think was getting there, and MTSU was a nice little back and forth, but no one else really, and I don't really care for forced rivalries.
