"Or, we need a dozen football players to identify as female."

That's good comedy.

Yeah, it is just too bad that, instead, we are excellent at the sports that the Department didn't want to sponsor (men's gymnastics, men's swimming, women's swimming ......). We really need to get our excellence lined up with the sports that some people think are most important. ......or, imagine this, we continue to seek excellence in every sport that we sponsor and hope that, eventually, MBB and WBB catch up and achieve greatness and that Football re-attains greatness.

Funding and its Consequences
Not singling out any sport for the axe, but it is a problem that W&Ms athletic department is fat compared to most of our conference peers. Our only competition for offerings are Big East bankrolled Villanova(private) and Monmouth (private).

IMO, seems like 18-19 offered sports is the magic number.

W&M offers 23 varsity sports

For comparison purposes, number of varsity sports each of our conference mates offer per Wikipedia:
Villanova - 24
Monmouth - 23
Delaware - 21
Hofstra (no football) - 21
Charleston (no football) - 20
Campbell - 19
Hampton - 19
UNCW (no football) - 19
Towson - 19
UNH - 19
Albany - 19
Drexel (no football) - 18
URI - 18
Stony Brook - 18
Elon - 17
Maine - 17
Northeastern (no football) - 16
Richmond - 16
NC A&T - 13
