UTSA pulls diddly squat in San Antone in the grand scheme of things. Last year they averaged 24, 229 in the regular season in the 60K plus Alamodome.

Name another G5 that averages more than 24k. To say the Roadrunners pull “diddly squat” is way over the top.

UTSA is doing just fine with attendance and building the strength of the FB program.

Ever see how much ink they command in the SA paper? 24K in a HUGE city. Most are Texas fans.

And okay, I'll even grant you your point about FB. But the SBC is wanting to build basketball. They do ZIPPO for that.

ECU won't do anything to help basketball either, but everyone seems okay with them. I was just thinking UTSA has shown the ability to get the city behind it while the other options in Texas all fight for attention in cities with multiple D1 schools.

UTSA isn't in my top 4, but they would be a good pick for Texas State who is really out on an island. If we're looking more for basketball then we might as well forget ECU and USF.

Free and mostly cheap tickets go a long way in attendance. UTSA had a great season last year and I am not taking anything away from them but their facilities are horrible and they are lucky that they have a city maintained indoor stadium handy if not it will be a totally different story. Look at their revenue it will tell you the attendance story.

I've been to the Alamodome. It's badly outdated. They curtain off all but one side of the upper deck, even last year when they had the higher attendance.

True. People get the wrong idea of how good UTSA draws but the truth is much farther from it. They do not have a single facility that is good and is no where near what Texas State has for facilities. Dear TxSt fans i am not trying to suck up to you but that FB stadium of yours is pretty sweet. Anyways back on topic. Here's the revenue generated by UTSA from that awesome season they had. They made a whopping 500k from selling all those wonderful FB tickets to those 24k fans at every game. 03-puke

I think we should dunk on all AACUSA schools for any and all reasons, but those 2021#s are from the 2020 covid season. When the 2022 report comes out we'll see how they did in ticket sales during their breakout season.

Yep you are correct about it being a Covid year revenue. Looks like they went as high as 2.3 MM in 2016 and that's their ceiling to-date which isn't saying much. Either way not a program that fans of other schools should be touting about.

Is it the curtains that are outdated? Or is it something else you have in mind?

The curtains that seem to bother you so much have always been part of how the Alamodome was designed to be used. They were incorporated from the get-go when the Spurs played there to make the stadium a bit more intimate. When the Spurs (and city) could afford it, a new basketball arena (AT&T Center) seating around 18k was built as the home for the Spurs. As for the rest of the Alamodome, it’s not outdated, but I find the design (surprisingly a HOK product) rather bland. The NCAA loves it tho as a venue for basketball.

The worse part of UTSA using the Alamodome is that it is not an “on-campus” facility. On the other hand, the Alamodome is centrally located, as opposed to UTSA’s campus which is on the NW side of the city. The Alamodome does allow UTSA an opportunity to schedule games against higher profile programs who might prefer playing in a stadium with a bigger seating capacity. As of now, the Alamodome works for UTSA, but the “feel” of TXST’s stadium is better IMO.

Maybe dated is a better word. For a comparison, the Superdome was built in the mid-70s yet feels modern and updated with several renovations and upgrades over the years. The Alamodome looks almost exactly like 1993 except with ribbon boards and four flat screen scoreboards/replay monitors in each corner. Very sterile and dated.

So I think the issue, and the newbies can correct me if I'm wrong, they weren't using the curtain on the upper decks, they were cutting the field in half and using two courts at the same time, i.e. a YMCA rec gym feel, you get tired of one game, walk down the concourse to the other side of the curtain and watch the other game..

I've never really looked much into UTSA.... but WOW... how are they in Division I with their facilities? Their baseball and softball stadiums are basic aluminum bleachers and the press boxes are... trailers on stilts (literally).

Their basketball arena is definitely not something you'd find in AAC. I'm sure Memphis, Wichita State, Temple, and SMU are going to be thrilled being associated with that.

Their baseball stadium is literally worse than my 2A(then 1A) high school baseball stadium.

The sad part is these UTSA Clowns think SBC is small time :03-banghead Message board posters aren't really repping school admin and their thoughts but they got a couple of clowns for posters around on this BBS that think of SBC as a nonstarter for their glorious school and it's God awful facilities. Their mod on these boards is a piece of chit too but I would leave those mod things to mods.
