EMU Football 2022 TE
In 2021 EMU had a two headed monster at TE: Odukoya as a blocker and Cannon as a receiving TE. The search continues for one TE that can do both well.

Leading the returnees is Gunnar Oakes a graduate senior at 6'5 260 who had 11 catches for 125 yards and 1 TD last year. Definitely a stronger blocker than receiver.

Former QB and wildcat guy Aaron Jackson a 6'2 230 senior had 6 rushes for 27 yards last year but no catches.

Jere Getzinger a 6'3 240 underclassman played all 12 games on special teams but had no catches.

Cole Rusk a 6'6 230 So., and Andreas Paaske a 6'7 250 redshirt frosh are also possibilities.

Evan Fortney a 6'4 235 junior provides depth and we added Jeremiah Drake a 6'5 245 frosh for more depth.

A name to remember who may end up starting by the end of the year is true frosh Max Reese a 6'2 230 who was highly regarded coming out of high school.

As with every season we always hope the TE is more involved in the offense.

‘79 thanks for the synopsis!

'79 just reminded why I think TE might be the weakest position on the team. The leading returnee had 127 receiving yards.

Is that for one game or the season? 01-lauramac2 (note the smiley).

I still feel that LB will be our weakest position.

My dark horse candidate to get playing time is Furtney. As I recall, he caught a ball or two in the spring game.

I still think Jackson should be a full-time QB.

We'll see who emerges. CC was so inconsistent with how he used tight ends. We had 2 real good ones last year in Cannon and Odukoya and you rarely heard their names in the passing game.

Oakes is good and eventually Max Reese will be the guy

Cow I would agree. I still remember him taking those three snaps late in the Miami game last year when everyone on the planet knew he was running and yet he not only secured the ball, but he almost got us a first down.

He has considerable athletic talent but unfortunately not a FBS arm.

I think his current status exemplifies Creighton's integrity as our coach. Instead of letting the kid languish as a third or fourth QB, why not see if he can be developed at a more suitable position with relation to his skill sets?

I know this is a TE thread, but guys....the additions of Kline and Sparacio instantly make us better in this spot. Also we get Scheidt back from injury.

You’re more optimistic than me. We’ve had P5 transfers that could not play at their P5 school and we got the same result. Has Dmitri Douglas played much? I hope I’m wrong!!

Just ran into his mother. Kyle is doing well. On top of his regular job, he will be doing some coaching at Linden HS.

I don't consider it close. TE is the weakest position. LB is much improved as indicated by social media folks who have observed practice. All comments have been positive.

TE is as a group a bunch of "he can catch but not block." "He can block and catch some but little speed." "He can...(some) but not (something else).

Word I'm getting from his apartment mate is that Gunnar has stepped his game up since last season and should be quite effective in the TE position. I don't think this position is going to be as much a liability as some might think.

That's good. Wasn't much reason last year to be on top of his game because of the talent ahead of him.

This is his year to shine. I hope Reese gets to play. May not be experienced as a blocker but move out as a receiver.

I met him by accident a few years ago when I was working at the Ann Arbor municipal golf courses. What an impressive young man! He will do well in whatever he endeavors to do, rest assured of that.
