The asterisks for “possible” future expansions is just silly-stuff.

My vote would be to list SBC facilities “as is”…anything less is just blowing smoke.

Talking about “what ifs” is appropriate if a school’s fans want to dream and discuss future possibilities on their individual board, but until a project is realized the asterisk stuff needs to go if an accurate, fact-based SBC reference is the intent of your hard work.

RE: New Facilities Thread
Thanks for everything you do! Awesome stuff! Updates for App if you want to note them:

- Kidd Brewer Stadium is technically listed at 30,000 these days
- The arena that mens and womens basketball play in is called the George M. Holmes Convocation Center.
- The softball stadium is called Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
- The indoor track and field capacity is the same at the basketball and volleyball as it is also held in the George M. Holmes Convocation Center.
- There has not been an outdoor track and field location since the end of Fall 2018. They are building a new outdoor track and field complex that is set to be completed this year. No word on what seating capacity will be for that.
- You have mens and Womens tennis noted. Mens tennis was dropped back in 2020. Additionally, the women hosted matches at multiple locations the past few years. Just like track and field, Tennis has a brand new indoor and outdoor complex being build projected to be finished this year.

Quick backstory on the new facilities because it’s worth telling and there’s some controversy there. A lot of folks complained about App having a track around the football field for years. Outdooor track and field used to be located in the football stadium through Spring 2018 outdoor season. Additionally, tennis never had their own indoor facility and their outdoor court was a small court behind the football press box that was doubling as parking during football season which as you’d imagine was not well received. Finally, Apps softball field has never been NCAA regulation size because we didn’t have enough room for it to be due to the football indoor practice facility being directly behind so teams would hit home runs for days in Boone. Flat land is a premium in Boone as you’d imagine so finding places to fix these was not easy. Additionally, everyone wanted to expand our football indoor facility because it’s only a 50 yard field but the softball stadium prevented any expansion there. Back in 2017, the university closed on a 75 acre plot of land where the old high school used to be before they moved to a new location and there is plenty of flat land on that plot. Announced plan in 2018 from athletics aside from all of the other plans they university has discussed for the property was to build a new outdoor track and field stadium, new indoor tennis facility and outdoor tennis facility and a new softball stadium and everything was to be completed in 2021. First problem that pissed the track and field folks off, to build the new north endzone facility in the football stadium, they tore up the track starting Fall 2018 and left Track and Field without a place to practice until the new stadium was built.. I’m honestly not sure where they’ve practiced since then. Then Covid happened and the school dropped mens tennis so the Tennis facilities are purely for women however the school completely did away with the old tennis courts and the women have only been able to play at local clubs not owned by the school kind of like many golf clubs do so time is limited and that went for indoor and outdoor until the new facility is finished. Basically neither womens tennis or outdoor mens or womens track and field have had a true home since 2018. With supply chain delays, things getting more expensive etc, the school has delayed the softball stadium and is finishing up the track and field and tennis complexes that were supposed to be completed in 2021 but have also been delayed. Once that is complete, they plan to start the softball complex. They will then expand the indoor practice facility to a full 100 yard facility once all of that is complete. Talking about “what ifs” is appropriate if a school’s fans want to dream and discuss future possibilities on their individual board, but until a project is realized the asterisk stuff needs to go if an accurate, fact-based SBC reference is the intent of your hard work.

RE: New Facilities Thread
Hate to keep throwing corrections at you, but I just saw you have JMU softball listed as Odicci Alexander Field at Veterans Memorial Park. I joked with Longhorn in another thread that JMU should just go ahead and name it that when we were talking about the confusion between baseball and softball facilities, but the actual name for softball is simply Veterans Memorial Park. I guess that got caught in there when you were updating at some point, my bad.

I'd be all for that name though! 02-13-banana

Question for ark state... Really like the end zone expansion - we need something similar in our corners by athletic center.... Really curious about the size of your press box... Holy cow

Talking of only the press box, it is 40,000sq ft. It has 42 loge boxes, 20 suites, a large club area with 2 full bars that cover 8,000sq ft, and 344 club seats. It is very nice inside and all of the seats have a great view. The club area actually gets rented out for other events while not during season.

We do the same with the club area of the Tigue: it is used often when not in season. In fact, since it is immediately adjacent to Cajun Field, during football season they open up all of the lower concourse for additional tailgating, which works very well. And just more reason why the Tigue, at least for now, is our best and most used venue.

RE: New Facilities Thread
Took a tour of the new soccer stadium progress and surrounding development today. GS fans are going to be very pleased with the final product. I was actually blown away. Not only are we not seeing cuts or scaling back due to economic pressures but quite the opposite. Surrounding stadium buildings will be much larger 4 stories not two for example than illustrated in renderings. Truly a world class venue is coming to the Boro. Definitely a venue worthy of hosting conference and NCAA championships. Pretty excited!
