Noah Farrakhan - A Top College Player
I know Emoni is getting a lot of love but we can’t forget how good Noah Farrakhan was for a covid19 freshman. He played a Covid19 shortened season under a coach that I believe got fired at ECU. Last year under a new coach and system, Noah was finally able to showcase his talents by averaging 17 ppg playing with mostly freshman and very average (I’m being kind) D1 players (Binelli, Okongo, Ballard, McBride and Spottsville).

This year, I believe we will really see Noah’s potential by playing with Emoni, Acuff, Billingsley, Geeter, and Lovejoy with rising sophomores Golson, Jihad, and Luka.

If Noah has gained 10 LBs of muscle, his trajectory is NBA draft after his junior season.

In basketball - if you have two superstars, you can be a force. If you have three superstars, a team can win championships.

Noah - may be better than Emoni with his 40” vertical, amazing handles, and catbird quickness :

I agree, Noah is a top player that we are overlooking with all the Emoni attention we are showing. I think Emoni doesn’t decide to join EMU without Noah on the team. No matter how GREAT you are, you can’t play 1 on 5. But with some decent supporting cast, you can dominate 2 on 5. This is a huge opportunity for both the university and these two young men… No pressure of course! Just do your best and have fun.

At the 7:29 point of Noah’s high school highlights, he drives down the lane and dunks on two opponents. Only guards with NBA potential have that kind of crazy athleticism.

He's the best I've seen at EMU since Boykins! Athletism and pure talent, the best I've ever seen! Tolbert, Dials, Boykins didn't have that burst, or explosion either! He's a NBA player, and there was A reason he was A 5 star, and invited to play at the IMG academy!

Terrific write-up on Noah.

Would add that SG Acuff is EMU’s third impact player. From anywhere on the court, he’s a deadly jump-shooter, and can also score at the rim.

Adding U of F transfer Forward Keyontae Johnson would provide EMU with it’s fourth impact player. Watching Noah, Johnson, Bates, and Acuff play together would be a real treat.

Talent wise, such a EMU team would remind us of John Wooden’s first UCLA team that won the NCAA Tournament.

Wow, that's real sunshine stuff. 03-cloud9

I do understand what you're saying, namely, when a team has 4 impact players who can each score, handle the ball, etc. good things will happen. BTW, one thing I really like is two primary ball handlers. If a team can get two PGs who can shoot, the offense goes high octane. A fluid offense is a joy to watch.

Yes - all of us are Boykins fans and none bigger than me. I believe Noah’s game will increase this season because the opponent will not be able to double him with great shooting teammates: Emoni and Acuff, Rice and Luka and Keyontae Johnson??

I believe Farrakhan can do everything that Boykins can do on the court and dare I say, he’s better than Earl.

I’m a big GS Warrior’s fan and loved Earl Boykins when he played for GS, but he’s not in same category as Noah is. As Boykins was a limited and deadly 3-point shooter.

As Noah is now playing with better players who can knock down shots.

For Noah to garner far more assists he needs slows down his game at times in half-court sets by dribbling slower and for longer periods so he does draw double teams. Heath needs to realize this.

Just passing the ball from side to side is not going to be as effective. Adding back-cuts, and by employing timing plays in which other players go to the hoop at the same time as Noah drives to the hoop will increase Noah’s assists as well.

Agree Miggy. One huge difference between Noah Farrakhan and other college guards is that when Noah gets in the lane, he elevates with a huge vertical and gets an open look at the rim. Earl could get in the lane with great proficiency but not like Noah. I made this statement when I first saw Noah play in the intrasquad scrimmage last season. He can elevate and shoot over opposing guards. Noah will be a PG in the NBA.

I mostly agree with you guys except:

Keep Johnson out of this conversation. That EMU was even talking to him at all is a rumor- whether true or not. And even if true, I am sure he is also talking to other P5’s with major followings and who also have a couple former 5 star recruits on their team plus a stretch center.

And…

Noah actually might prove to be better than Earl Boykins, but hasn’t yet. Earl Boykins was by no means a 3 point shooter only. Earl was amazing at driving the lane with. Both are masters at redirection in their drives. Noah has more vertical, while Earl had more speed. In the end, if Noah proves more successful in the NBA (still have to wait and see on that), it might be that he has 9 inches on Earl.

Boykins enjoyed a nice pro career, but by todays's standards, he didn't shoot two or three's anywhere near as well as Noah did.

Earl was a warrior that came to play every night. He led his EMU teams to multiple MAC championships. I don't really care what the stats and analytics say, Earl was a great college player. Hopefully Noah can come close to achieving what Earl did.

Very true that Boykins had a very successful college and pro career. Noah is just starting his journey and he brings both high energy and intensity to the court. Hopefully, he'll attain or exceed Boykins' accomplishments.

RE: Noah Farrakhan - A Top College Player
Boykins was an amazing college warrior that brought his A game every night. I see similar potential with Noah Farrakhan.

Who will be the best PG in the MAC?
Now that Sears has transferred, and Segu has used up his eligibility, I see Noah as the Top PG in the MAC (Miller from CMU is very good). Noah will probably play with a chip on his shoulder since he was left off the all-MAC teams.

Who will be the best PG in the state?
I also see Noah edging out the UofM Pg (Princeton transfer) and better than MSU Pg.

In fact Noah should have the edge at Pg against every team this year until we hit the tournament and then we’ll evaluate each match up.

Until Farrakhan does it, you can't mention him with Boykins. Boykins DOMINATED the MAC. End of story.

I am going to agree with Bob on this. We can theorize on who could be better, Earl vs Noah- that is the fun of these forums. But it should be clear we are talking about Noah’s potential and NOT current fact.

I guess facts are in the eye of the beholder.

At EMU his freshmen season, Earl Boykins averaged 12 5 ppg and shot 34 percent on three's. His sophomore year he averaged 15.5 points per game and shot only 30 percent on three's. In both seasons, Boykins shot less than 47 percent on two's.

In Noah's first season at EMU, he averaged 16.4 ppg in conference play and shot 47 on 2's and 40 percent of three's. Clearly, Noah's stats are far better than Earl's at a comparable stage in their college careers.

I am going to agree with Bob on this. We can theorize on who could be better, Earl vs Noah- that is the fun of these forums. But it should be clear we are talking about Noah’s potential and NOT current fact.

I guess facts are in the eye of the beholder.

At EMU his freshmen season, Earl Boykins averaged 12 5 ppg and shot 30 percent on three's. His sophomore year he averaged 15.5 points per game
and shot 34 percent on three's.

The game is completely different now than in the 1990's. I have no doubt Earl would be able to put up higher numbers playing in today's game.

EMU won 25 games Earl's freshman year and went 14-4 to win the MAC regular season. They won 10 total games in Noah's first year (which was his second year of college).

Noah is great. An absolute pleasure to watch. I'll be interested to see how this year goes when he is no longer the No. 1 option.

I guess facts are in the eye of the beholder.

At EMU his freshmen season, Earl Boykins averaged 12 5 ppg and shot 34 percent on three's. His sophomore year he averaged 15.5 points per game
and shot only 30 percent on three's.

All - I didn’t want to start a debate on who is better Earl or Noah because they played in different eras. One could argue that the MAC was tougher when Boykins played plus he was on a great team and didn’t have to score as much. One could argue Noah had more opportunity to score because his freshman team was young etc. we could counter than Noah drew double teams because his teammates were not a threat to score etc etc.

Bottom line Boykins won two MAC Championships, was captain and NBA player
Bottom line Noah Farrakhan has greater potential and we are spoiled to have one of the top Pgs in the country at EMU
