What does your endzone renovation bring capacity to?
More like, where are the fans going to come from to fill it?

I respect SMU's athletic programs, but that university has absolutely dreadful fan support. Very few who actually graduated from there care enough about SMU athletics to attend their events and to anyone in Dallas who didn't, they're an afterthought.

It's unfortunate because SMU has done a really good job of building a competitive overall athletic department, but it is what it is. When I hear people talk about SMU delivering Dallas, I laugh hysterically. They don't even deliver their own alumni base.

I never said SMU delivered the Dallas/Fort Worth media market. I said it is in a top media market. And if we win against good competition, the fans will turn out. Witness what winning has done for Baylor. We have had good success against TCU of late, to the extent they stole our head coach.

SMU has been winning, and their attendance numbers are still really bad.

Look, I'm not knocking your programs. Most are very respectable, and I generally root for you guys. But it's hard to defend y'all's attendance given the state of your football and men's basketball programs. Y'all had one home crowd larger than 24,000 people last year -- and that's announced attendance, not butts in seats.

We are competing with the Cowboys, the Rangers, the Mavericks, the Stars, plus multiple non athletic venues. We have a small alumni base in Dallas, many of us are dispersed elsewhere. Many of those that remain are watching the games in luxury boxes and club seats, not in view of the public or TV cameras. Plus many of our home games are against teams that the folks in Dallas don't care much about like Temple, South Florida, East Carolina, etc.

You do know that Dallas/Fort Worth is one media market right?

Is SMU ever mentioned in the Star Telegram? Is TCU ever mentioned in the Morning News? Are either of them mentioned in the Avalanche Journal or the Houston Chronicle? How many TV sets are tuned into either of them versus Texas or A&M?

As you mentioned in the post above, you never said SMU carried the market, just that you were in it. Well TCU is in the same market, thus SMU does not add to the market.

I wish SMU well against most opponents as I want them to be reasonably good as long as TCU plays them. Yes, even when TCU loses as it is a long and storied series. Can't say the same for Baylor in general.

But yes, TCU is mentioned in the Dallas Morning News and Star Telegram, article links are posted on the TCU forums regularly.

As far as the attendance post, TCU is also small and deals with the same options for entertainment as SMU. Neither school will sell out 100,000 seat stadiums, but 24,000 is pretty sad. TCU had significantly higher in the MWC. SMU needs to figure it out for their future at a high level or move down.

I'd agree SMU wouldn't be in the top 11, or 12 of the Big12. They'd replace KU.

It is true that TCU focused on improving athletics every year for many years while SMU was embarrassed and de-emphasized athletics for years. Now things are, and should be, more even, including conference affiliation.
