The New Big 12
It appears that the new Big12 will be a power conference. The schools from the SEC and BIG conduct serious recruiting efforts in the DFW Metroplex and Houston/SE Texas.
As such, the Big 12 should schedule annual Labor Day weekend matches in two stadiums - AT&T in the Metroplex and NRG Stadium in Houston against a BIG team in one stadium and an SEC team in the other stadium. Maybe rotate between conferences in each stadium every other year.
To avoid conflicts with our local schools TCU would host in Arlington and Houston in their city. Of course, we could also rotate Big 12 schools in the games. The games would give Big 12 schools a chance to strengthen their power numbers when it comes to ranking in the playoffs at the season's end in addition to greater exposure on the national stage. And would be an enticement to the schools that recruit in these two major recruiting markets.

Positives: If you win you get the recognition needed. Semi event that would likely strengthen conference perception assuming we’d be competitive.

Negatives: You give the SEC and Big Ten a free game in Texas to aid recruiting.

Not against it but I’d definitely see if those conferences and teams the big 12 schools would want to play just do a home and home first.

The SEC will have plenty of games in TX. Big is a different matter.

RE: The New Big 12
the Big 12 does not need to currently be making the mistake of trying to gain anything from associating with any other particular conference in football especially and that is especially specific for the regular season

the games with the SEC SEC SEC and Big East in basketball are all good, but football is a different matter

in football the Big 12 needs to do what they should have been doing for YEARS and that is giving members the flexibility to schedule for the needs of their program and to build the best program they can and then bring that strength to the conference

since moving to 10 teams and more stupidly to 9 conference games it has been a disaster for the Big 12 because that guarantees conference losses while removing the chance for conference wins without a guaranteed loss to pair with it

the Big 12 does not need to bind members to being limited to playing games from any particular conference or limiting the chance for them to make the best schedule for their program in the OOC......all the more so with a conference that stretches 3 time zones

BYU needs to continue to do what they have done well lately and that is hand losses to the PAC 12, WVU and two of the new members need to be handing losses to the ACC as much or more than worrying about the Big 10 or SEC SEC SEC

the existing midwest members and OkState need to be getting into Texas to gain WINS not just match up against a particular conference or they need to add a game out west or east to try and take advantage of the fact that they will have games in those areas now with more east coast members and BYU out west

this does not at all mean load up on D1-AA body bag games nor does it mean avoid a game against the SEC SEC SEC or Big 10, but fitting those games into a schedule that meets the needs of members for their recruiting, their recent win/loss history and the goals of their program is more important than trying to bind conference members to games with any one specific conference

all the more so when one of those conferences specifically makes their way in the world with a ton of D1-AA body bag games even for their top programs and having them late in the season to boot and the other one of those conferences has plenty of programs that will take an ass whipping in a conference game, collect a check, and be happy to do it and other members that are happy with a 2nd or 3rd place DIVISIONAL finish in the season and a few weeks highly (over) ranked before they fall apart and go to a decent bowl game with a 50%+ chance to lose it

it is a poor idea to bind to any conference, but it would be a better idea to go ahead and try and get ACC or PAC 12 teams in the OOC because taking them down just makes them that much more weak and if the Big 12 can make that work then the other things will fall in place

the Big 10 and SEC SEC SEC are working their system and the great failure of the Big 12 for the last decade was not creating a system that worked for them and instead trying to sell garbage about "winning the conference" in the playoff era when that was meaningless and talking about everyone plays everyone and one true champion (which failed dramatically the first year and the Big 12 still clung to it like fools)

they were too scared and too stupid and too concerned with "what will the other conferences think" or "well these teams in the Big 12 will just schedule garbage games in the OOC" to understand what was at stake and how to work the system

the Big 12 needed then and needs now to work a system where members eat what they kill and then come into conference play for FEWER CONFERENCE GAMES with that strength of having fed on what was available to get a win from

there is ZERO strength in "good losses" or "a close loss to a top program from one of the Big 2" there is only stupidity in believing that will ever matter and what will always be better than ANY loss to ANY program is a win even over garbage

again this is not advocating for more OOC games filled with garbage, but it is advocating for letting programs schedule to get wins and move from there and not being bound to any conference wide scheduling philosophy (other than fewer conference games and freedom to make a schedule that is best for your program) or especially agreements with others

while there are many similarities amongst Big 12 programs there is a lot of dissimilar needs and ways to meet those needs and there are better ways to target OOC scheduling than looking at two conferences that have what they already have wrapped up while two others are out there with glaring issues that the BIg 12 can take advantage of and that would be fantastic for several Big 12 members to go after
