Even the Olympic host cities lose money, that is why there are no cities bidding for future Olympic Games, it just cost to much.

But we do have the International Fireman Games(or whatever it’s called) coming in a couple years, I’m sure that will make up for that lost $14mil…..

Not surprising at all. Was it worth it? Maybe. I will say it was cool seeing Bham on the TV from the other side of the world. It blows my mind that people thought there would be people traveling to see this event. Im pretty sure most of us had never even heard of the World Games until it was announced Bham would host.

World Games Birmingham was the first one on American soil since the first World Games in 1981, not many people are that familiar with it compared to the Olympics

Birmingham will host the Fireman/Police World Games in 2025

100% worth it. It was amazing and Birmingham shone bright on the World stage. Our image was greatly improved nationally and internationally thanks to The World Games!

Former mayor Larry Langford was a small man will big dreams RIP

My favorite Larry memory was the time I was running an errand at the courthouse downtown around the time he was going through his legal troubles with the SEC, and he was holding court of his own in the entry area with a group of 10 or so people and going on about how the SEC was out to get any successful black man they could. As I was passing by he belted out in his best bombastic Sunday Sermon voice "Everyone knows that SEC stands for Sue Every Colored!"

It was quite the entertaining thing to see and hear in person.
