Hey ODU Folks
I recently moved to the Harbor View area of Suffolk from Hattiesburg. Mrs. echo and I rode by y'alls campus on the way to Raising Canes at the Naval Exchange. So anyway what is the tailgating like for y'alls football games? I figure since I'm up here, I will try to catch a few games this season.

Oh, and before anyone gives me a hard time, yes I know I've been a member of this board since '13, but CUSA, outside of USM, didn't really do it for me. I'm excited about the Sun Belt 04-cheers

Not a football guy so I won’t lead you astray with any tailgating advice - - other than to assure you that it happens.

Mostly, welcome to the area. I’d apologize for the July humidity, but seeing that you’re from USM I presume you are used to it.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm used to humidity, but not the traffic. I work in Courtland and 58 and 664 are a nightmare,

Hey ODU Folks
Welcome to Hampton Roads!!

Tailgating, I don't know the full extent of it but we have a bunch of lots, as well as the main university concourse. Drinks should be easy to acquire for friendly fans 04-cheers Food and drink are also served in the stadium

I don't think this board was here in 2000. I joined pretty soon after it started and helped bring the MAC to it. GTS may have had the bones up but it wasn't fleshed out.

Well, I worked for Goodwill then and I joined some board that got moved I suppose. I guess it could have been spring of 2001. I remember Oddball had a tagline, "None for the dumb in 2001." And then there was dear, dear Harry Horsepower, Perimeter Post, Queen Amidala, Dodo, and Dr. Torch.

I originally joined as THUNDERStruck73, then got away from the board for a long time... Then had to make a new handle (THUNDERGround) for a while. Then GTS was able to bring my original handle back, but I lost my original join date, post count, and rep.

Echocs welcome to the area. I did that drive for 2 years from Chesapeake to Courtland/Capron area. If there is any chance of snow or freezing rain, eat your pride and rent a room at one of the shady motels in Courtland or Franklin. It sometimes took me 8 to 11 hours to drive home during winter storm conditions. VDOT in Southampton and Suffolk didnt have the resources to clear roads and or move cars with wreckers on 58 when I made that commute years ago.

You need to buy a season ticket and make a donation to ODAF to get a tailgating pass. But you can often find tailgate passes on craigslist or stubhub for sale.

If you cant find one on the secondary, your options are as follows.

There is free parking in the two garages that flank the Ted (Chartway Arena).

From there it's a short walk to Kaufmann Mall where you can tailgate on the lawn (biggest downside here is dragging all your stuff to and from the car before the game starts). However there is an alumni association tailgate on Kaufmann Mall that you can buy a pass to. Think it's around $20 cash per person and includes food and NA drinks with a cash bar.

Your other option is to join friends at their spot or walk around and introduce yourself to those with spots. We're a friendly bunch and most will welcome you in. We have a large group of tailgaters, around 10 different spots. So if you dont know anyone and dont like the cold approach, just DM me and I'll give you directions to our spot.

Finally, there are lots of restaurants and bars near campus that a lot of visitors end up at. North Colley has a lot of good options. But the easiest spot to do this at is Hair of the Dog. Park at the Ted and walk over. It's a sports bar with good food that you can see the stadium from.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I was here during all the snow earlier this year, thankfully the snow was on the weekend, and I thought about if the snow happened during the week I may have to stay in Franklin. The hotels there don't look like a place I would normally stay.
