RE: July Emusings
BTW, here are some proposed rendering for new residence halls including Westview by the West Campus athletic facilities.
https://www.emich.edu/welcome-home-2025/
And Eastern Echo: https://www.emich.edu/welcome-home-2025/
"All 3,050 beds at EMU will be new and renovated. A significant portion of the new beds will come from the new housing buildings, with Lakeview providing 400 beds and Westview providing 300 beds."
I would think Westview will be popular with athletes. Do a morning workout, hop in car and go to classes, etc.

Around the 4:20 mark, Missouri State has done what I'd like to see: Remove the track and rebuild one side of the stands closer to the field. It works. Looks really good.

Hey, EMU pay off the SAPC and redo the west stands. Move closer to the field (after the track is gone) and build a big press box into the stands (instead of concatenating them on top of the stands).
Steve, thanks for bringing a viable option on how to get a new stadium at EMU. From my perspective, there should be no money spent on concrete repairs for the visitor stands. Any money spent should be the removal of the stands and track. Then a plan to build new visiting section should be in the works.
Here is a good summary of what Missouri State did, in their own words.
"The playing surface was replaced and moved closer to the west grand stand. In addition, the student side (east side) was fully replaced from the ground up and includes game day locker rooms, a new scoreboard and a party platform called "The Clif"."

Excellent Steve! It would be an EMU alumni dream to have an intimate stadium. Adding this piece to a Coach like Creighton and he would elevate EMU football to unprecedented MAC heights in my humble Ohio. I believe Coach Creighton can win the MAC with what we have but an intimate stadium would push EMU over MAC expectations. We have a very solid Coach and I’m hoping this season we find some way to win 8 games.

Spot on Luckey! I've been shouting from the rooftops that we need accelerators within the football program that get us from good to great. Accelerators to me would be a better stadium experience, more media coverage, NIL opportunities etc. I'm also the same guy who thinks the SAPPC needs a balcony that would be used for alumni during games. (see what CMU did and it's cool)

Yep. As I have posted many times, the minimal step forward is to remove the track and make all of the area (other than the gray football field) would be green.
Then If the west stands were replaced they could be move eastward 10 - 15 feet.
The east stands are still too far away but since few fans sit there, not a big issue.

If someone doesn't read the whole article, TLDR, this is it in a sentence:
"Because its athletic program was $103 million in debt, according to USA Today, and stands to make about $60 million more per year in TV money with the Big Ten than it was with the Pac-12. "
its = UCLA.
And 103M in debt. Really? Oh my CPA.

Dear steve,
Thanks for the article, and I agree with it. Why are all these schools scrambling for more money? In my opinion, its coaching salaries that are out of control, and the NIL. Add to that, the costs of transportation, I wouldn't be surprised if these conferences start to purchase their own fleet of planes.

Great share Steve!
With apologies to Dan, who is indeed passionate and intelligent, FEW college football programs actually make money but those that do, print it, like Alabama, Texas A&M and Ohio State.
I have ZERO problem with the super-conference alignment, thanks to the futile management of the NCAA. Let the 30 programs that actually generate a profit include another 30 or so to get the big TV contracts and call it the true "FBS".
The MAC and others can then revert to a division where NIL rights are NOT allowed. Yes, great players in this division will transfer up for greater career and financial opportunities, but that is where we are now, anyway.
The G5 teams never had true access to the CFP, despite Cincy's inclusion this year. One could bemoan that MAC games are not marketable, the ESPN MACTION contract would prove that incorrect. Nobody tunes into them thinking that they are watching a potential National Champion, yet the resulting ratings of such are higher than anything else ESPN can secure. There is a relevant market for such a division, and it includes more than just us diehard fans. Just my take on this.

Well, we know EMU athletics was redoing the HOF area and had announced on George Gervin Day that there would be improvements but I did NOT see this coming.
Great job and that money is well spent on hoops and other events at the GG GA center.
BTW, if UofM MBB and WBB players like 'those bright lights', they are in YPSILANTI.

Liberty's game with EMU is 2023 is canceled, and probably 2024. Liberty needs to get rid of like 20 games because of going from Independent to CUSA. Previously we had to get rid of a series of games with Miami, OH.
