RE: Big 12 vs Remaining ACC; if ACC falls apart
If there were a loophole and ESPN used that to negate the ACC's GOR, it might move some pieces over to the SEC but it would also lose pieces to the B1G and Fox. Instead of getting good ACC teams on the cheap, it would either have to pay tens of millions more for them or would lose them entirely.

The incentive just isn't there.

I don't see the ACC falling apart. ESPN has a great deal and know it, The GOR is still valid, and it sounds like ESPN may even be upping the ante a bit. If ACC could get 5 to 10 mil more per team, they would be much more solid and ESPN is still getting a solid bargain.

This.

I've tried explaining it to people this way. If Texas, the richest athletics program in all of Division 1, is not trying to challenge the B12 GOR and is willing to wait it out - what does that tell you about the ACC schools? There's no way those schools, short of dissolving the league, will be able to afford breaking a GOR that has over a decade left. Again, Texas only has to wait a few years and they are not trying to challenge theirs, that says a ton about how the GOR is viewed by all conferences.

I don't know about that. You have to look at the risk/reward calculation. The current financial gap between the SEC and the XII isn't all that large. That huge new SEC deal doesn't take effect until 2024. So, basically if you're UT/OU, you're only missing out on 1 year of that big SEC payout. So not a lot of reward for what could be a big risk there.

On the other hand, the top ACC schools will be getting doubled up by the SEC/B1G for at least a decade or so. There's a heck of a lot more reward for taking the risk of fighting the GOR there.

RE: Big 12 vs Remaining ACC; if ACC falls apart
I really want the Big 12 to expand to 20 teams and add Pittsburgh, Louisville, and Virginia Tech to form a 5-team eastern block with Cincy and WVU. Something like this.

NORTH
- Cincy [NEW]
- WVU
- Pittsburgh [ACC]
- Virginia Tech [ACC]
- Louisville [ACC]

MIDWEST
- Iowa St.
- Kansas
- Kansas St.
- Oklahoma St.
- Texas Tech

WEST
- Arizona [PAC]
- Arizona St. [PAC]
- Colorado [PAC]
- Utah [PAC]
- BYU [NEW]

SOUTH
- Baylor
- TCU
- Houston [NEW]
- UCF [NEW]
- Georgia Tech [ACC]

It depends where it compares to the New Big 12 tv deal.

The New Big 12 tv deal is going to pay more than the very old ACC tv deal.

Once UCF makes more than Miami and FSU. The ACC will fall apart. GOR will go to court and become a whole legal debate. However, Miami and FSU will not sit idle and let UCF pass them.

Miami and FSU are going to leave the ACC before the new Big 12 tv deal get signed.
