Jim Kaplan Passes
Jim Kaplan, one of William and Mary's greatest alums and sports supporters, passed away yesterday in Williamsburg.

A member of the Class of 1957, Jim came to W&M from very modest means in Windber, PA to star as a Tribe basketball captain, serve as an
officer in the US Army, and found and grow into world-wide business
manufacturing corporation...never forgetting William and Mary throughout
the years.

Kaplan Arena remains to keep his name forever at our great university,
but Jim's contribution....not only to athletics but the entire College
will always be remembered.

Jim was my dear friend and I mourn his passing.

A noble man! Immensely talented... humble... and as nice a person as you could ever meet.

Big loss for the W&M community and very sorry for the many who mourn his passing.

Some make take this the wrong way or feel I’m insensitive. That’s far from the case but I can understand you taking it that way. Given Mr. Kaplan’s generational love of W&M, most specifically Tribe Athletics, I wonder if he left something to our school in his will.

Jim was an inspiration to all Tribe donors and fans.

Here is a link to the Athletic website for the article and video to honor him:
