Stability should be this league main goal and I’m afraid Oregon and Washington don’t bring that vs perhaps Utah and/or Colorado
Correct, Oregon would help the B12 get more money from TV. However stability is more important currently and in the near future.
Agreed. As crazy as it sounds, those two would be my fourth and fifth choices from the PAC-12, after Utah (No. 1) and the Arizona schools.
If they want to join in addition to those three -- and probably Colorado -- great. Otherwise, I'm cool with sticking at 16 and waiting to see what happens with the ACC over the next 10-14 years.

plus Cal and Colorado suck and are budget disasters and need to be left to fend for themselves not being an anchor dragging behind the Big 12
people act like in the current landscape there is some need to immediately match the Big 10 or SEC SEC SEC in number of teams in the conference much less the stupid idea of trying to get bigger than they are to "beat them to the punch" as if they are expanding because they want warm bodies much less check collecting zombies like Cal and Colorado
there is no need to get to any magic number anytime soon there is a need to get the programs that are best able to be LONG TERM additive to the conference and to make sure none of them demand to bring their academic friends (that suck at sports) of their little brothers and sisters along with them for old time sake.....all the more so when they would leave them behind in a heart beat if offered

I don't understand wanting Colorado. If the magic # is 6 as reported by D Dodd, then I would think it would be the 2 AZ schools, Utah WASH, OR & Stanford.

Other than academics, SDSU has far more upside than Stanford IMO, and not nearly as "snoody". AZ, ASU, Utah, SDSU, Oregon, Washington

we can all agree Colorado to the burn pile
as for SDSU, Stanford or any others that are similar.....make the move for those you KNOW you want and leave the rest to see how they feel about things on their own for a while
if the Big 10 somehow takes Stanford really who cares (doubtful) and SDSU will always be there
if the Big 10 does not take Stanford and the media partners are not stepping up with ADDITIONAL money to bring them in or not demanding they are in or they do not do a deal then who cares about them either let them stay with Cal, WSU, Oregon State, Colorado and whoever else.....they can enjoy SDSU unless the media partners are paying ADDITIONAL money for SDSU or demand them (probably not)
this is not the time to repeat the mistakes of the past and starting to grab warm bodies you think can perhaps maybe possibly probably be somewhat likely to potentially compete or that have "content" and not much else that is a KNOWN

Colorado at least has historic rivalries, geographic location, and the Denver market. The actual teams are all meh.

I don't get it either, but there must be some TV numbers and metrics for Colorado that we don't know about?
Standford will never join the Big 12 however. I can see the B1G taking them as a way to entice Notre Dame, but we (as a conference) don't have the academic prestige for Stanford to even look at us. I don't know what they do or where they go if they don't get an invite to the B1G though. Maybe if Notre Dame stays independent Standford goes independent as well?

Colorado, Utah, Washington and Cal are AAU members and would help fortify the academic reputation of the B12 since all of the former B12 AAU members have left. Like it or not, this kind of stuff matters in branding. You wouldn’t want to be the only P5 conference with no AAU members.

True. My bad:
You wouldn’t want to be the only P5 conference with only one AAU member.

Stanford doesn't want to join the big12. They'll just see it as a good time to take the off ramp for bigtime football if it came to that being their only choice.....
With Texas out, Stanford views every single one of our schools as something they don't want to be associated with(some more than others, but.....)
So we don't have to worry about debating the merits of stanford.

If nothing happens soon, it is more likely the Pac holds together. Sounds like Big is likely done for now. If B12 can't or doesn't add Pac schools pretty quickly Pac leave overs likely to regroup. 2 or 4 from mwc should set them up for next tv deal, assuming no B12 schools would jump to pac.

No one will move till the pac schools see the tv money that there looking at. Since fox isn’t bidding on the pac at all, I think we are in a pretty good spot.

One advantage of adding Colorado is that I could make a half-day drive over the mountains to watch my Bearcats every few years. I also have a granddaughter starting her freshman year there in a month or so. Boulder is a happening place -- not as exciting as Manhattan, KS or Stillwater, but still...
Little known fact: the cafeteria in the student union there is named after Colorado's only convicted cannibal, Alferd Packer. There's an impressive bust of him in the checkout area (at least there was when my daughter was a CU student 30+ years ago).

1) It's about quantity as much as quality IMO. There is strength in numbers and you remove a brand/school from an opposing/competing conference that is also fighting for financial survival.
2) They're not Oregon State or Washington State [two historically poor performing football schools overall] and happen to be geographically adjacent to the current B12 footprint.
3) Colorado has history/familiarity/synergy/culture with the old Big 8/B12.
4) All indications are they're one of the early P12 schools [Arizona is the other] to consider making the jump. We want schools that desire to be a part of the conference.

If #4 is correct B12 needs to grab them ASAP no matter what the rest do. Solidify the B12 while tightening the noose on the others. Truth is no one knows how seriously any Pac school is or was in talking with B12.

Most likely, Clemson and Miami go to the SEC and NC and Duke go to the B1G. The Big12 can pick from the rest.
IF the Big12 moves fast, they'll be the 3rd largest (and safest) conference. May need to go to four 6-team divisions. As always, size matters.
Unless someone can successfully challenge the GOR issue not sure anyone leaves the ACC. I think that is locked in until 2036.
Unless the ACC dissolves and I would imagine that would have to be unanimous and that won't happen. Major lawsuits would ensue by the left behinds which could take years to resolve. But who knows...crazy times for sure.
