UIW's candidacy wasn't widely embraced as it was. The WAC should stand pat and wait for better opportunities. Getting UTA back was a much bigger addition.

At least the anti-UIW people now don't have to stress.

Not for WAC football.

Really sucks for WAC football. Wonder what happens to all the schedules that are already made? Nothing of it in the SLC release

For that one sport, the cooperation between WAC football and Atlantic Sun football will probably need to maintain for awhile. Perhaps UTRGV's move up will inspire others.

With UIW not coming to the WAC and Sam Houston and New Mexico State leaving for C-USA, it does leave the conference at 11 members after this season. It will be interesting to see if the WAC will try to add a 12th member or stay pat at 11 for the foreseeable future.

The WAC has tried and failed to attract football playing members. I wonder if they would be more successful recruiting non-football schools.

No point in adding someone if they’re not bringing football.

The WAC should kick UIW mens soccer team out.

I hear Chicago State is still looking for a conference home. Maybe the WAC can add them to offest the loss of UIW? 02-13-banana02-13-banana02-13-banana

From Lake Charles paper...

The Cardinals are expected to play a full Southland schedule, including football, this season. UIW is the defending SLC football champs, claiming the program’s first title last fall with a 7-1 record. It’s only loss was in Lake Charles to McNeese State.

Grant had previously said the league had plans in place if the Cardinals decided to stay.

“We are working on finalizing those right now,” Grant said. “We want to make the least amount of changes necessary for our teams, players and fans.”

I don’t know how the WAC can allow this. UIW leaving seriously f-s with the football schedules that is 2 months away. WAC should respond by booting their soccer team.

Sucks for the WAC. UIW bridged the geographic gap to UTRGV and were in a large metro (recruiting).

So that are sticking with their SLC schedules for all sports? It looks like schedules were made, is there any recourse for the WAC?

SFA going to go back too?

I have a hard time that SFA will be going back; they made this move for basketball for which the WAC is a top 16 league while the Southland is in the 30-32 range. As long as football is not jeopardized or the basketball side of things falls apart, they are not going anywhere.

UIW is apparently reverting back to SLC schedules and I hope there is some sort of recourse here as this really does damage to the WAC schedules at this point in the game particularly in football. Volleyball can probably be adjusted as can soccer - those were straight up round robins if I am not mistaken, so they could just add a match/game against something that makes sense.

Just looking at the UIW football schedule and games impacted by this change...

9/24... SAM HOUSTON
10/8... at Stephen F Austin
10/22... ABILENE CHRISTIAN
10/29... at Tarleton State
11/5... LAMAR
11/12... DIXIE STATE
11/19... at Southern Utah

Of note, Cardinals were playing at Nicholls on Oct. 15 which is now a conference game.

This is what I am talking about. What are those schools going to do now? UIW isn’t effected at all by this, but OUR 7 WAC schools are.

That is why the WAC should kick out their mens soccer team, but do it on Thursday.

I’d like to see the contracts for those games. Might be time to sue for breach of contract

UNM won't allow that.
