I think Cincy is probably the most Big 12 ready of the new AAC schools with UCF not far behind but Houston definitely has some work to do to get their roster Big 12 ready.

Baylor, Cincy, and Ok St. are all looking really strong right now entering into the new Big 12 era. Anxious to see what UCF does this season as well after Malzahn just did a massive roster overhaul leveraging the transfer portal.

TTech and TCU will always be in the conversation as well.

Fwiw there are many predicting Houston to win the AAC this year. Not sure why there’s such a disconnect between the media and posters on this board. I guess we’ll see who’s right later this year.

I think what UCBall21 and Charlie Broadway is discussing is This Year vs Next Year. In 2022 we a supposed to win the Conference in football. In 2023, we dont know because we will have another Quarterback and that could be different.

As a UC fan I do not think we will dominate in FB, but I do think we will be a pack leader. The other 3 newcomers will be good also. If the 4 newcomers were weak, they would not have been invited.

Only the B10 invites weaklings like Rotgers and Maryland.

I would not expect anything less. Cincinnati will Intimidate, Dominate, then Celebrate!

The new Big 12 is going to be a lot like the old 2005-2012 Big East where the competition is wide open and just about everyone (but Kansas) has a shot at winning it.

The media continues to believe that Holgorsen is an A-level coach, but that evidence is not in the record.

Recruiting rankings are garbage… Programs have been successful with lesser recruits versus those who scream their higher rankings recruiting from the mounting top.

Holgorsen looked great last year culminating with beating Auburn in Alabama.

He's recruiting is arse off right now. Don't discount what's going on.

I think the newcomers can compete day 1 with their starters. I don't see a huge drop off. The difference is in the depth that has been accumulated. I believe we will need a year or 2 to get that where it needs to be.

I wouldn't say they are garbage, but agree you just can't measure stars or composite rankings. The key is to get the right kind of guys that fit what the staff wants to do. With that being said, the odds the higher ranked guys are going to work out are much greater than the two-stars/low three-stars.

I think you hope at least 2 of the new members are in the top half of the league each year. You don't want a B10 adds like the are a drag on the conference.

Other than BYU, the other 3 are in recruiting hot spots. I think all the newbies they will do well (not bottom 2-3 most years and one of the 4 will be in the mix for conference title most years).

I agree with you not wanting to add drag. This is the reason I don't support Colorado State. For however great of a geographic and institutional fit they may be, they suck at football and pretty much always have. There's just no real reason to expect them not to be the bottom of the conference. If we add more teams, they need to be from rich and new (to the Big 12) recruiting areas. To me, San Diego State is easily #1 for that reason alone, though I don't support any expansion right now.

I also expect that over the balance of time, the 4 newcomers will outperform all of the incumbents except perhaps Baylor and Oklahoma State. TCU, Texas Tech, and WVU may jump in every few years. The Kansas schools and Iowa State are going to bring up the rear.

And I'll just leave this prediction here: UCF will go the Moon CFP as conference champions within the present decade (assuming the current 4-team playoff system remains; if expanded, it will be sooner).

Media like CBS, Associated Press, and Yahoo Sports have Houston football in their top 20 especially going 12-2 and downing Auburn in the bowl. Add the Elite 8 and Final Four status in basketball plus recruiting a 5 star Walker. In basketball, UH can compete with anyone in the country let alone the Big 12.

Don't be surprised if Hou takes Cinn especially with Desmond Ridder leaving.

I can see this is going to be a fun conference. I feel like it will be an unpredictable intriguing league where you never know who’s going to rise up in any given year.

Look, I saw both ECU and Wichita come in to the AAC running their mouths about how they were going to kick all our a$$es... and end up looking like jerks, so I aint gonna do that here.

UC in the BE and AAC took a few years to transition but ended up on top of both. I think we can still do that in the B12 with Fickell in charge.

I think we'll be hard to beat at home but I can see us dropping some road games this next year.

New schools will do well in the league, but it will take a season or two to build the depth needed to compete every week. Take if from a fan of a team who was in your shoes a decade ago. We go undefeated and win the Rose Bowl in 2010, go 11-2 in 2011 then join the B12 in 2012 and go 7-6.

But then in 2014 we go 12-1, win the conference, go to the Peach Bowl and kick the s*** out of Ole Miss and their "landsharks". (Should have been in the playoff though - still bitter 03-banghead).

Give it some time and the new schools will be on par with everyone else. Which will make the league that much more fun.

Correction: "But then in 2014 we go 12-1, share the conference title, go to the Peach Bowl ..."

Good post, otherwise. I agree.

Yes y'all went 7-6 the first year in after the Andy Dalton era was over (correct me.if I'm wrong here). Meanwhile you have bottom feeder schools in the big 12 were 7-6 is a success. Don't sell yourself short
