6-6 (4-4 in the MAC) would be somewhat of a disappointment. Would at least get us back to a bowl. They have eight MAC teams as bowl eligible, which is the same number of bowl tie-ins the MAC has so we'd at least get to a bowl in this scenario. I think all of the six wins they have for us are realistic, but I also think both games with the other Michigan schools are winnable as well as Kent State and Ball State. I think we can get to 8-4.

https://collegefootballnews.com/2022/07/...eview-2022

Man it's hard to take CFN serious. I do agree with you that 6-6 given our OOC schedule (yes, I do think if we are firing on all cylinders we could pick off ASU who is a bit of a dumpster fire now) and a 9th yr head coach that this would be not devastating but disappointing I'm sticking to my original projection that 8-4 is on the table with a team and coaching staff like this, but likely a 7-5 and hopefully a bowl win.

I don't agree with a loss projection to Western. They are good but lost their starting QB and Sky Moore who is in the league. Also, remember that Central is good but lost two linemen to the NFL.

If Taylor Powell can really shine (he has to play better than Ben Bryant did), and our new LB's provide better run stop and remember this is the deepest our secondary has been, than I just don't see why we can't be 8-4

I agree, I tend to value CFN's previews the least.

But speaking of teams losing a lot, Ball State also losses a LOT of production. That includes their QB Drew Plitt and star receiver Justin Hall. I know its on the road but I'd really like us to take down BSU. We had a 3 game win streak over them in Mike Neu's first 3 years (from 2016-2018).

I want us to get back to putting them in their place.

Frank, you bring up a good point I really like this EMU team coming back and I like them even more when I think about the losses other teams have had in terms of talent. Could this be the year? NIU scares me but no one else does

I would like to beat Kent State because that will put us 1 more game closer to .500 against them. (EMU only has a winning record against 1 other MAC program - Buffalo. We're 9-10 against Akron and 14-17 against KSU. Everyone else the gap is much greater).

I think we split Louisiana and Arizona State. They both have a bunch of players leaving. Arizona State is in other turmoil. Louisiana Lost their head coach and their top players. It's also early in the season. I think we pull off a surprise when out of one of those two.

You’re right about Louisiana, but as someone who has been there several times, they have a huge home field advantage. Very difficult place to win.

Of the 12 MAC teams, 6 will have a new starting QB. This includes 5 of the 8 EMU opponents.

Louisiana and ASU also have new QBs.

QB play is important and it's nice that many of the EMU opponents are in a similar situation.

Do not underestimate EKU. That's a pretty solid FCS team.

Dear WoodenNickle,
Eastern's history with Eastern Kentucky is not good. First played in 1948 and lost 20-0. Played in 1949 and lost 27-6. Most modern play was 1970 and lost 21-10. Played again in 1971 and tied 0-0.
So, my feelings are, is this one of those teams we just can't seem to beat, even though we may have a team as good or better then them.
The reason for my last statement was because I was at the 1971 game, and we outplayed them, but did not get the breaks on penalty calls, and had a touchdown late in the game, but our back fumbled,
as he crossed the goal line, and in those days there was no leeway of crossing the goal and its a touchdown like today.

Ken....cmon man...... our players were born in the 2000's and have no recollection of those games. CC has recruited very good players and while I never look past anyone, we should not have a problem with an FCS school
I am sure they are good, but remember we are good and return a LOT of guys with D1 experience.

If this game is within 14 points, I will be disappointed.

I think Beydoun goes off for 10 catches and I think Ramirez gets 2 sacks.

Dear steve4840,
What do players recollections of any game have to do with how they will perform?
Yes, I agree that things should be different this year, but do you remember a school called Central Connecticut State?
I was only showing our history with Eastern Kentucky which I thought would be interesting to know.

Interesting, yes.

Relevant to what this year's EMU does against EKU, no.

Ken, I certainly appreciate the knowledge if the history between the schools. I'm struggling to see how this history impacts this upcoming game.

I'm a newer EMU fan. I started following the team around '16 so my perspective is narrow but the team and program now-a-days is soooo far different than what they were in my eyes. EMU is getting better players, consistent coaching, better facilities, etc. I just think we should easily take care of business against them

The players that go are those in their last formal year of eligibility. I believe there may be some who went in what was supposed to be their final year and due to the extra Covid year and/or an injury year (or both like Donnelon) wouldn't be making a second trip this year even though this is technically their last year of eligibility.
