RE: Podcast
I've been asked many times how to get more local people to attend our games. I answer is make them more family friendly. Playgrounds would be nice. Children get bored they need other activities. Bathrooms that are more family friendly would be great as well. Safety is always a concern as well. A better concession stand will help.

Winning matters.

Last I checked, the FB teams hasn't won a MAC championship since Hector was a pup, and sadly Hector has been dead for many years.

Our last MBB MAC championship was 1996.

As many have noted, one would think just based on chance we'd win in FB or MBB say once in 10 - 15 years (although winning teams usually continue to win more often and losing teams usually continue to lose more often. Not like flipping two dice as saying "okay, if 12 comes up, it is EMU's year to win it all.'

Can we at least get lucky once in a while? Do we need to be the Detroit Lions of the MAC?

All of that is true but until than happens we need to get local people to attend our games. Players seeing more seats being filled even when we are not winning will help with recruiting.07-coffee3

Well said. Rynearson needs massive work. The concession stands are minimal and lack creativity. Bathrooms are a mess. I'll always support EMU football, but the stadium is brutal. Are there any plans to renovate this space?

RE: Podcast
Haven't listened to the podcast yet but here are my thoughts.

The game experience in football has improved and they are trying, but unless the students show up en mass the stadium and arena are moribund. The first game of the football season has a lot of excitement when the freshmen are turned out from the dorms. There is homecoming which is great, and then the cold weather and weekday games begin and the stadium becomes a mausoleum.

Season ticket holders, or people in between the 35 yards lines, for the most part, sit on their hands even in big play situations. In our group we sometimes have rowdy people who join us and try to get people to stand up and scream, but are greeted with puzzled looks! The biggest cheers are for the shell game and when the eagle lands after the anthem. Can we utilize our great band better? Sit them in the middle and let them help get the crowd rowdy! Sit the students in front as well?

Basketball has done a great job with the fraternity/sorority evenings, and other events in the same ilk. The energy at those games were undeniably increased. The pep band is awesome. The camera opportunities with kiss cam, dance off, flex offs get the crowd going. Start more traditions where we have a signature song that the fans sing along with. The emcee has been very good and a big improvement over past hosts.

I have been observing fan interest in the Detroit Soccer team. The game is an event. People are going nuts singing and having a great time. How did that get started?

We all know winning is the key but energy begets energy and we need a catalyst.

Though you have some good points (what would the signature song be??) I think the idea of putting our band in the middle of the stadium would get shot down faster than a 18-point buck during rifle season.

You not only take away prime seat locations, but you then make seeing difficult for the sections around them.

Also: our band is average. They took a huge step forward a few years ago but have not seemed the same since after the Covid year. Maybe numbers will increase and their budget will improve for some new sheet music as we get further removed from that strange year and they'll return to that level.

A few years ago the band would break out into "hey baby"which was recently covered by dj otzi - and the students would all start to sing along, it was very cool, and set a great atmosphere (Red Sox have Sweet Caroline, Packers have Bang the Drum all Day)

RE: Podcast
So I've been a return season ticket holder now for about 7 years. The game day experience has improved. The new LED lights, the live eagle during the national anthem and the grey turf are wonderful. Unfortunately the stadium is old and tired. I understand they are going to spend $5.5 million I believe this year on concrete repair I believe on the visitor's side. Attendance has improved over the past 7 years but can always improve. I hope EMU continues to be a family friendly pricing and entertainment value. Both in hoops and football it would be good to see another 3,000-4,000 consistently at each game both basketball and football. The George Gervin game last year showed what is possible with hoops.
