This right here. Even the folks who run our biggest local soccer organization say that and have accordingly made it a point to de-emphasized competition at the younger ages and focus more just on skill development in their programs.

We Americans want to organize the sh** out of everything and live vicariously through our kids too much, and that plays into the hands of other people all too willing to make a buck off it. As a result, our kids end up playing for trophies in another state before they’ve even really gotten a handle on what they’re doing. Meanwhile, some kid in Latin America is just goofing around with his friends all day long, developing at a more natural pace that pays off in the long run. None of this is by any means exclusive to soccer, either.

Wonder why we have not made a play for Akron. They still only have a 5 members, was 4 before they added Chicago state. Conference has to have at least 6

We had a real nice tight geographic footprint before adding UCF. But hey they are in Florida. Adding Akron would stretch us out even further the opposite direction.

I doubt Akron wants to be sending their team to Orlando, Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, Columbia, and Statesboro.

Plus, Akron can now dominate the MAC and get their NCAA bid every year now.

I think so long as the MAC is sponsoring the sport they’re obligated to play there. I know there’s been exceptions like Providence women’s volleyball being in America East for a few seasons before joining the Big East but unless the conference stops playing the sport they’re at the least morally expected to stay there.

I don't think we stretched out the conference too badly. The 10 teams could geographically be split into north and south. There's 5 teams in Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Then there's 5 teams in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Both groupings are with neighboring states.
