The writing is on the wall for the ACC
Here's an interesting article from a Clemson blogger.

The Writing Is On The Wall

Piggybacking on one of his earlier pieces, here he's talking about the coming contract with the Big Ten and how this undergirds the problems for the ACC. Both the SEC and the Big Ten are increasing their revenue while the ACC is falling behind.

Primarily, I find it interesting that this hand-wringing is coming from people with connections to Clemson. I think it's most likely the powers that be know they need to get out.

While message board angst is anecdotal, it can't be emphasized enough how much pressure exploded onto the P5 scene with Oklahoma and Texas's desire to join the SEC. When co anchors bolt their own fiefdom it sends chills through the ranks. UNC, Clemson and by proxy FSU and Duke are all alleged to have reached out within days of the breaking news.

Schools know what they need to do, but they are currently figuring out how best to do it and delaying in hopes of a legal out due to pay for play.

So I wholly believe your assessment, but think it's a matter of when and how, and not a question of if.

Where those four schools the only ones that supposedly reached out to the SEC after the OU/UT news? Any schools from out west or up north?

Yep. Iowa, Nebraska, and Ohio State reached out during B10 COVID shutdown. PSU may have been involved as well.

Its in the realm of not-realistic, but an SEC expansion with Ohio State/PSU would be better overall than the Texas/OK expansion.

Both combos are grand slams, but most valuations have Texas being more valuable than tOSU and OU > PSU. Both would open up new recruiting grounds and add large fan bases.

Last year on another site I thew out the SEC was going to 4 team pods. They would add a northern pod of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State, then a western pod of USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington. Nobody bit on it. It was about the SEC adding the most desirables but keeping the divisions as close to their original conferences. So the number could be any number and not necessarily the same as the others.

RE: The writing is on the wall for the ACC
ACC takeover by the SEC: Clemson, Duke, Florida St, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, and Virginia. Throw in Kansas from the XII.

East: Clemson, Duke, Florida St, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia
South: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi St, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
West: Arkansas, Kansas, LSU, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M

B1G adds 10 from PAC + Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech.

Central: Arizona St, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah, Wisconsin
East: Maryland, Notre Dame, Penn St, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech
North: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St, Northwestern, Ohio St, Purdue
West: Arizona, California, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington

XII adds Boston College, Louisville, North Carolina St, and Wake Forest plus Memphis, SMU, and South Florida.

East: Boston College, Cincinnati, Louisville, North Carolina St, Wake Forest, West Virginia
South: Central Florida, Houston, Memphis, SMU, South Florida, TCU
West: Baylor, BYU, Iowa St, Kansas St, Oklahoma St, Texas Tech

Symmetry!
There are 9 PAC AAU's plus ND = 24 for the Big 10.
7 ACC plus Kansas = 24 for the SEC.
Oregon St, Wash St, Arizona St, B.C., All 7 of the ACC leftovers, San Diego St, & USF.

Now you have a P3 of 24 schools each and the B10 and SEC have solid brands.

The buzz from sources where I am at, is that Clemson is adamant about moving to the SEC, sooner rather than later. Information includes that the SEC is also in talks with Notre Dame that would include an enticement offer that’s rather unique. These two schools could be the “test” cases. No ND, FSU makes the beginning duo.

Any update on the morning conference calls the ACC AD’s and presidents had?

Big Ten rumor mill seems to think ND gives its answer by early next week.

I'm intrigued by what this unique enticement would be from the SEC.

But overall, I would say Notre Dame more likely to go to the Big Ten especially now that USC would be a conference mate.
