McMurphy on Upcoming Conference Change Timing and Fees
Scroll down for CUSA to AAC info. Looking good for 2023. Nice of CUSA to cut the notice date from 14 to 13 months

C-USA also considered adding Tarleton State and Eastern Kentucky.

Praise Neptune, we got on the lifeboat.

This makes no sense. One of the reasons CUSA is having to consider this was because of 9 programs leaving the conference. We needed a lifeboat about 10 yrs ago.

So we'll owe CUSA anywhere between $1.5M and $3.0M as our exit fee. Anyone know what the AAC entrance fee is?

It’s all good man. The ACC GOR expires in 2036. We have a good 10 more years of growing our programs so we can level up again then.

We needed a lifeboat about 10 yrs ago.

A little less than 10 years ago, a direct order was issued that, should the AAC call, that call was not to be accepted. Tulane, East Carolina, Tulsa . . . they all accepted that call. Did we even get that call? I doubt it, but it wouldn't have mattered. We had already been blocked by Tuscaloosa.

The men who blocked any potential move are still alive. They still hold power. Some of them would prefer to see UAB in the most humiliating alignment possible, playing with Eastern Kentucky, the Sam Houston Institute of Technology and the Liberty Pool Boys.

Yes, it would have been better to be on the lifeboat with Tulane and Tulsa. So in deference to you, I'll re-phrase:

Praise Neptune, we grabbed hold of a floating piece of burned bulkhead while UTEP and LaTech slipped screaming under the sea.

I'm sure you meant AAC and this thing about having time to grow is not etched in stone my poster friend. Things are a changing and my point about needing a lifeboat 10 yrs ago applies to these changing times that will no doubt affect the future of the G5.

Again, just my opinion.

Oh no I meant ACC. I’m thInking the SEC and B10 will feast on the ACC and the left overs could form the core of something attractive to us academically and athletically

There are so many things I don't think you are taking into consideration but that's cool. Keeping a positive outlook is a great personality attribute.

So, there was a change we would have competed against EKU & a college that sounds like it’s named after a heater? Yikes!

No it was never a chance. Those teams were being considered because of the nine schools leaving CUSA.

You keep saying this, and while it’s true, it didn’t happen. You can either move forward from where you stand today, or continue to dwell on the past. Nothing can be done about a decade ago, but we can move forward from where we are today.

I really liked the second paragraph of that McMurphy article:

"The completion of that deal would then allow the six Conference USA schools — Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA — to join the AAC on July 1, 2023."

You have to imagine the mascots . . .

On our floating piece of wood, we'll be just like the chick in Titanic: "Well sure, Jack, there's room for you here . . . but you're a steerage passenger. Now kindly slip under the water and die."
