Every conference is different. In the MWC, for example, they are geographically spread out more. There also may be some benefit to having a chance to play Boise St. or Air Force. The MAC has no Boise (national reputation?) or AFA (national academy).

As for the MAC, keeping divisions for now with the opportunity to change later is the best situation.

Yeah, having nationally recognized teams is the impetus for this. So it’s really irrelevant if the MAC went to it or didn’t. Nationally the conference is that bingo cage with the ping pong balls. Just spin it and pick 1 for the champ.
