I'm guessing you're meaning the "highest attended game" in our stadium's history. Cause I guess that would be Norfolk State seeing how it was a sell-out.

The best crowd for ODU ever tho? Gonna have to be this game. Stadium was pure electricity the entire game

Wait, what is this? The 2018 Coastal-ULM game had terrible attendance. The 2021 ULM-CCU game set an attendance record though.

Considering our new stadium opened in the COVID era, South Alabama’s will not be great.

Yeah this 2021 Morehead State game was 22,229. Highest of the year was 25,035 vs Villanova and the attendance record is 26,069 in 2015 against Richmond when JMU hosted the first of two College GameDays. Don't particularly want to relive either of those though so here's number 2. 2017 vs Villanova:

The best (as opposed to biggest) crowd I’ve been a part of at our place would be either vs. TCU in 2003 or vs. Cal in 2004. Aaron Rogers said that Cal crowd sounded more like 80,000 than 30,000.

Man, I'm feeling the juice that JMU is going to bring to the Sun Belt . I have been interested in James Madison ever since ODU came in CUSA back in 2013 I believe, but James Madison was mentioned as one of the teams to be joining back then . ODU proved to be a quality program and I thought that James Madison would also make the move. It took a little longer but I am glad to get the opportunity to compete against James Madison now.

This is my personal and very unofficial answer based on a hope, when ticket demand exceeds 25,000 on a regular basis.

The good news is we averaged somewhere near 23,000 playing no longer interesting fcs teams so I believe the better competition alone will take up to 25,000.

Factor in that the right circumstances/team we could get well over 25,000.

The bad news, it is expensive (obvious) and we have been on a bit of a spending spree and may have to be patient

Our AD has made comments along the lines of demand/attendance will dictate that. Lots of speculation and debate, my guess is maybe 5 years from now we could break ground. If we start selling out all games, it could happen sooner than later. Right now, we generally can sell out the opener, homecoming and parents/family weekends.

AD has stated that the target capacity is around 40k once all expansion phases complete. 1st phase was completed in 2011. 2nd phase would build out the east grandstands to match the west, and 3rd phase would expand and bowl in the endzone.

Any chance y'all just build out the lower bowl in the near future? Would really give y'all's stadium a more 'complete' feel and would look better on TV seeing how the least attractive side of your stadium is what would get the majority of the TV time.

This has also been discussed and debated on our board. My take, just listening to some AD interviews, is we will likely do the 2nd phase/east grandstands in one go. Economics of the project likely favor that vs a rebuilding half of it with little additional capacity.

Rather than a huge expansion, I could see JMU potentially doing a nice renovation to the smaller side and end zone to really tie the stadium together. Maybe bowl it and add more premium seating spaces on the smaller side. That would save from potentially sacrificing atmosphere unless a large expansion is absolutely needed.

I supposed it’s *possible* but nothing we’ve heard from any official sources indicates a move that direction. Our AD in an interview shortly after the SBC announcement (November timeframe?) spoke more about when we would start phase 2, which has been on the drawing board a long time. The problem with a more minor renovation is they would incur a lot of the cost without the benefit of more capacity.

It’s also possible we could start phase 2 sooner than my guess. I’m just thinking they will want to see a couple solid seasons of sell outs, and it takes some time for budgeting, fundraising, etc. The designs/blueprints are there though and the AD mentioned they have revisited and updated those plans recently.

I'm sure those guy's have growth projections and trends. Just an alternative thought, as a 15k expansion is pretty significant. A 40k stadium could very well be warranted and makes sense.
