Having said that, the one thing that does hurt Greensboro is its airport. I don't think Greensboro is in a position to do anything about it. The airport is more about hosting interstate events than HQ location.
FWIW, Greensboro (303k) is larger than Orlando (292k). Montgomery, home of the SEC HQ has a population of 197k and seems to be shrinking. I believe the SEC is doing OK.
I'll be sure not to hire you as an analyst ;-)
SEC is Birmingham not Muntgumree
Comparing city limits proper is ridiculous. The Orlando Metro dwarfs Greensboro and as you stated air travel is a huge factor in selecting where to locate a conference HQ.
Airports are a red-herring. The conference will use the nearest executive jet port most of the time. Take RDU in Raleigh - wheels with planes come and go from Raleigh Exec Airport located 25 miles south of RDU near a town named Sanford.
Orlando Exec Airport is near downtown Orlando.
For Charlotte they likely use Concord/Padget
Mostly true but not everyone flies corp jets...commercial airports do matter.

RE: conference hq relocation update
I personally don’t care for the Orlando location. The city is a great place to visit and vacation. I’ve had good times at bowls in Orlando. Orlando isn’t not located anywhere near the conference center.
Honestly I would rather see the conference office stay in Greensboro. If they’re dead set on moving, I’m for Charlotte.
North Carolina is more centrally located in the conference then Florida.
Certain traditions of the ACC Conference should never change.

Uhm, the SEC Offices are in Birmingham.
Thanks. I must have mistyped something when I googled it.

You an combine all the cities you want. It doesn't change the fact that the conference HQ is a bunch of bean counters. It doesn't matter where they are located. Moving the offices is a complete waste of time and money and prevents them from working on serious issues.

I’m sure Disney is real broke up over Desantis giving them a $163 million a year tax cut and making local Florida tax payers take over a billion dollars of their debt.

I did not know DeSantis' background until a few days ago because this seemed so stupid I looked him up. He has zero State or Local governmental experience. He went from being a Light Colonel in special forces to the US House so he has no experience actually providing a service to customers or taxpayers. I'm betting the Orange County Manager nearly stroked out the other day when he found out this was heading toward them.
Aha, turns out they use the Strong Mayor form of government where an elected mayor runs the day to day of the County. Turns out he is Black and is married to Val Demmings - Congresswoman from that district. Now it all makes sense - this is personal against Orange County.

Charlotte?
Would ESPN want the SEC headquarters moved to Charlotte, too?

Nah. Move SECN to Texas, along with SEC HQ, and move the ACCN and HQ to Charlotte.

The Texas/SEC "blending" is going to be interesting theater.

It will never blend. They are now officially the SEC and the SWC +Mississippi (the state nobody wants)

RE: conference hq relocation update
Quote:But for now, at least, DeSantis is leaving alone another valuable perk: $578 million in credits Disney can use to reduce its state income taxes through 2040. Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for the governor, said DeSantis hasn’t asked the legislature to repeal the tax credits because “it’s not a carve-out for a specific corporation.” Any company can apply for the incentives, she said, and “the bigger investments will qualify for the bigger tax credits.” ...
Disney cited plans to move as many as 2,000 staffers, making an average of $120,000 a year, to a new corporate campus in the state. The campus will be in Lake Nona, about 20 miles southeast of downtown Orlando.
The company, one of the state’s largest employers because of its theme parks there, is investing $864 million in the relocation, including office construction, supplies and software improvements. Disney considered other states, including California, New York and Connecticut. ...
The legislation signed Friday calls for dissolving Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District, but leaves some crucial questions unanswered, like what will happen to the $1 billion in bonds backed by the district and who would take care of the services the company currently provides?

Disney already assesses itself in order to pay the districts bills. If you think unionized local government can provide public services cheaper than a private entity devoted to such things you are wrong. The real kicker is that the utilities will have to run and be accounted for like a business instead of a division devoted to sustain the park. Depending on the amount of needed or deferred maintenance, some of the systems may be insolvent under such an arrangement.
