Bonus comment: We still have not heard where Johnson is signing. Assume Kansas State but still no word. They begin classes a week from today. The clock is ticking...

I would think he'd have his things packed, residence picked, etc. I think we think of starting at a new college like starting a new job at McDonalds, "Sure I can start the day after tomorrow..."

EDIT: Here is a bit from Blue Ribbon Yearbook, the bible of college hoops, and they mention the problem of getting schedules into their yearbook:

"Unfortunately, that means we couldn’t include schedules in the book. Many schedules won’t be released until September, and now our to-the-printer deadline is Aug. 31. "

As I have said many times, it may take an act of Congress to get schedules made. It seems it is more difficult than negotiating an arms treaty for schools to agree to OOC games.

BTW, for those interested they will have the digital download version by September 1.

This is a fact, but one that won’t interest ‘79: I ordered my first blue ribbon yearbook just now. Not sure what will transpire this year, but it has the potential to be a particularly memorable year for EMU basketball. Hate to lose out on a potential momento. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nope it is new. I think the schedule story for S. Carolina broke today.

I ordered one last year and ordered for this year. Next.

Sorry, '79, my post was kind of mangled. I know that you bought Blue Ribbon last year.

I re-read my post and I have NO idea what I was trying to say. .05-nono05-nono

RE: 2022/23 MBB Schedule
It is August 16 and we do not know the date of any home game. We suspect UCSD, and UDM. Don't know dates. Don't know the names of our home opponents.

MBB (I'm talking all of D-I) is getting to be like Congress. They wrangle, argue, debate, and finally, sometimes, accomplish something.

Getting teams to agree to play each other is getting worse by the year.

I believe everything is being delayed until Emoni signs.

RE: 2022/23 MBB Schedule
I just want to plug Blue Ribbon College Basketball. Last year it gave a solid analysis of EMU's team and where it might end up. Even without Bates I believe we should be among the top 6 this year vs the bottom 4 of last year. With Bates the expectation, of course, would be much much higher. And of course there were a lot of roster changes in the MAC which you can see on the MAC Additions Thread. Just an additional comment on MAC basketball recruiting almost every MAC team has it shares of "reaches" or "projects" on its roster. Nothing wrong with that as long as folks are being realistic and not projecting them to be the next George Gervin. I love and appreciate every athlete who commits to coming to EMU and working hard in the classroom and in their sport.

Coaches do a good job of being realistic yet use good taste in discussing their players.

We see statements like, "he has a good handle but needs to improve his three point shooting to become a more complete wing player."

The good thing is that coaches have usually had most of the players described in the book either last season or at least during the summer drills which are getting more valuable to assess players strengths and weakness.

Maybe the only player Stan hasn't seen at the GG GA Center would be Pranger. Otherwise, I think all of the other scholarship players are returnees or did summer drills or both.

He should be able to give an accurate assessment.

BTW, while awaiting the schedule. What we know is great for the players:

1). Little Caesars Arena,

2). Cancun,

Vanzee is pointing out last time EMU and UM played, Eastern one. Legitimate chance Eastern creates a “win streak” against our Washtenaw rivals.

As much as I despise Michigan and would love to beat them again, they’re probably gonna win comfortably. We will have no answer for Dickinson at all, and they’ll just keep force-feeding him until the game is out of hand. Awful matchup for us.

We’ll always have 2014 though. Probably my favorite EMU athletics moment ever.

What I thought, Murphy ball wasn't pretty and some games (like NIU scoring 4 points in the first half) were ugly, but we won games with much less talent than our B1G opponents, including Purdue.

We no longer have that edge. Now we need to 3-ball them to death and hope we have one of those nights where the basket looks like an ocean.

My profile pic is me as EMU's last basket was in the air.
I loved that GAME!

Not so fast - we win the PG match up with Noah and we win the SF match up with Emoni. Acuff match up is neutral.

If we get out and run, have a fluid offense and hit some key 3 point shots this could go down to the wire. If it’s a one possession game at the end I like our chances.

I agree with Sam that there is a huge mismatch at center. But UM lost 4 of their 5 starters so hard to say how they will be beyond him- to Luckey’s point. Llewelyn was a nice add at PG and maybe Bufkin has a sophomore leap, etc, so might make up for all that. We will have to wait and see, but I am still optimistic.

My take on these games:

We have a "puncher's chance." If our best shooters come out and shoot like they have never shot before with the 3-ball, then an upset is possible.

What I've learned in the last what 40 years, "The 3-ball gives underdogs a fighting chance."
