RE: One Tribe One Day
From the Athletic Department:
William & Mary Athletics set a single-day record for giving on the university’s most recent One Tribe One Day on April 12, raising $571,862 during the 24 hours of the event.
“We are incredibly appreciative of the support our friends, fans and alumni provide,” said Director of Athletics Brian D. Mann. “As we continue to work towards the goals outlined in the All In campaign, the annual giving piece is an essential component. These are funds that meet our most pressing needs – and provide our student-athletes with the resources necessary to pursue the best versions of themselves.”
The 2022 OTOD marks the second-straight year that Athletics broke its own single-day of giving record. The previous standard was 2,376 donors provided $545,843 in support in 2021.
Included in this year’s total was over $64,000 of gifts that were directly impacting Women’s Athletics Scholarships, which moved the department within $85,000 of unlocking a $750,000 matching gift for the initiative. Athletics will look to raise the remainder of that number prior to the close of the academic calendar year (June 30, 2022).
This year’s record number was achieved through the gifts of 2,248 individuals. Included in the record total was a $15,000 stipend earned by attracting the most donors among W&M departments. It was one of four awards provided as part of the The Gerdelman School & Unit Challenge, sponsored by Sue Hanna Gerdelman '76, P ’07, P ’13 and the late John Gerdelman ’75, L.H.D. ’19, P ’07, P ’13.
“William & Mary’s Athletics Department is in many ways a second home to our family,” said Sue Gerdelman, the chair of the All In Campaign. “John and I met while he was playing football for W&M and our two children grew up attending Tribe Athletics events. We are thrilled to support its mission of providing our student-athletes with skill sets that will allow them to thrive in life after graduation.”
Overall, the university had more than 9,550 donors give over $3.8 million to more than 730 different areas across the campus.
In the last eight years of the day of giving, W&M Athletics has raised more than $2.3 million in critical funding for its student-athletes. Because of this steadfast generosity of alumni, parents, fans, and friends, the Tribe is able to provide the resources for student-athletes to pursue championships and develop as individuals who are prepared to live lives of impact.
